The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 244

Chapter 244

At six years old, Poppy already understood more than people expected.

Because she remembered every word Zeph told her, she ultimately chose not to ask any questions at all.

The moment she saw Zeph shelling peanuts, she hurried over with a folding stool in her arms.

“I’ll help, too.”

“It’s cold. Put on another layer of gloves first.”

Not wanting to lose, Cola immediately joined in by biting peanut shells apart with his teeth.

Nicole felt awkward just sitting there watching, but Zeph wouldn’t let her help.

“Rest. Don’t wear yourself out.”

He didn’t fully understand how her abilities worked, but he knew handling all these crops definitely wasn’t easy.

The black soil garden was incredibly fertile. Just 1,000 square feet of peanuts yielded around 160 pounds.

Nicole tossed the peanuts with some seasoning before boiling them in several batches and letting them

soak until flavorful.

She kept two pounds out to eat fresh while they were still hot, then stored the rest inside her storage space for later.

The corn was handled similarly, with half boiled and saved for snacks or breakfast.

The wheat harvest was surprisingly high, too, but without a threshing machine, they could only use the oldest method possible: rubbing the grains loose by hand.

Thankfully, wheat kernels naturally separated fairly easily from the stalks, so the work wasn’t too rough

on their hands.

As always, Zeph never slacked off with physical labor. He finished processing everything within a single day before Nicole moved it into her storage space to air dry.

After several straight days of exhausting work, Nicole genuinely couldn’t handle much more.

With another full planting cycle coming next, she shamelessly leaned into laziness without a trace of guilt.

Meanwhile, Poppy never once asked about the mysteriously appearing supplies.

In fact, she seemed increasingly calm about them, as though she had quietly accepted that strange things simply existed now.

Taking advantage of Poppy not paying attention, Nicole secretly pulled out several huge bundles of various vegetables.

When Poppy noticed the sudden pile of fresh greens in the kitchen, surprise flashed briefly through her eyes. Even so, she still asked nothing. Instead, she obediently helped Zeph sort and wash vegetables.

Once the work was done, Nicole praised her with a smile.

“You’re such a good girl, Poppy. Go play with Cola and the bunnies.”

Poppy immediately looked toward Zeph with hopeful eyes, only running off happily after receiving his approval.

Once the doors and windows were shut tightly, Nicole and Zeph spent hours stir-frying over a dozen pans of vegetables before packing everything into containers and storing it away.

With fresh green vegetables finally back on the table, Poppy’s appetite visibly improved. As she ate, satisfaction spread across her face.

“Zeph, this is so good!”

Later, after Nicole and Cola headed home, Zeph called Poppy over to sit beside him on the couch.

“Poppy, do you like Nicole?”

“I do!” The answer came instantly.

“What if she and Cola live with us from now on? Would that be okay?”

Poppy’s eyes immediately lit up. “Really? I like Nicole.”

And Cola. And the bunnies, too.

Zeph watched her carefully. “If that happens, we’ll have to share our food with Nicole, too. Are you okay

with that?”

“Yeah, I’m okay with it.”

Hearing her answer, Zeph quietly relaxed. “Did you like the vegetables, corn, and peanuts these past few days?”

“Yes.”

“Do you want to keep eating them in the future?”

“Yes.”

“Do you want to know where they came from?”

Poppy froze slightly and looked up at him. At first, she nodded instinctively. Then, she suddenly shook her head hard.

“No.”

She knew that if she asked questions, Zeph would be unhappy.

“Mom and Dad sent them to us,” he said.

Poppy stared at him blankly as her eyes slowly turned red.
