Chapter 287
Zeph and Nicole spread the map out and quickly zeroed in on the biggest ceramics factory in Westbridge.
Zeph glanced over at her. “Any high-end auto shops around here?”
Nicole paused for a second. “Yeah.”
Westbridge had plenty of rich people.
The older generation kept things low-key and practical. Their kids were the exact opposite, cruising around in multi-million dollar supercars while wearing flip-flops.
There was even an elite car customization club started by a real estate heir, dedicated to modifying
luxury cars.
The summer after Nicole graduated high school, she worked there for two months, serving drinks and making coffee.
The pay was decent, but that wasn’t why she took the job. She wanted footage for her channel, so she went undercover and secretly filmed exotic cars.
She made three videos out of it, and every single one blew up. The lives of rich people really were
beyond imagination.
Nicole looked at Zeph. “Are you hunting for parts?”
Zeph nodded. “My SUV’s still sitting in that underground garage. Some components are probably ruined, so I want replacement parts before I start rebuilding it.”
After the natural disasters, almost every vehicle had spent time underwater. Finding one in perfect condition was nearly impossible.
Nicole had the storage space. If Zeph managed to fix up a few extra vehicles, they could always trade the extras later for items that expanded them even more.
Nicole hadn’t thought of that. If they found enough parts, they could also upgrade vehicles for Hughie and Jeremy.
The two of them had already decided to head for the base. On paper, a little over 200 miles didn’t sound far, but the roads were too dangerous now.
Before the apocalypse, it would’ve only been a two or three-hour drive. If they wanted to see each other, they could just get in a car and go.
Now, every goodbye felt permanent. Once people were separated, there was a good chance they would never see each other again.
Hughie and Jeremy were her only real friends, the ones who had grown up beside her at the orphanage.

The factory itself was enormous. The two of them spent a long time searching underwater before finally finding the warehouse shutter door.
The metal door was thick and heavy, nearly impossible to pry open. Luckily, there was a window nearby. One hit from the glass breaker shattered it easily.
The moment Nicole saw the mountain of inventory stacked inside, she almost lost it.
The cardboard labels and warehouse signs had been soaking underwater for over a year, and the writing had long since dissolved into blurry stains.
