The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 304

Chapter 304

“We run a clean business,” Weasel said. “We’re in it for the long haul. You’ll see.”

Nicole had no problem with that. As long as she controlled the water, she could end the partnership any time they got shady.

The tanker held 20 tons. Filling it through a single faucet would take forever, so Nicole took the opportunity to ask Weasel for several large bundles of flexible hose.

Weasel looked speechless. Nicole seriously couldn’t go a single day without squeezing extra perks out

of somebody.

Still, considering she had saved their lives, a few hoses were nothing.

The deal was set. They would hand over the tanker at 9 p.m. to fill it, then exchange water for goods at 5 a.m. the next day.

Zeph still didn’t feel comfortable letting Nicole go alone, so that night, he headed out with her.

As for Cola and Poppy, they were locked inside Zeph’s apartment.

There were three stainless steel security doors downstairs, plus another six barriers along the stairwell. Even if someone had the guts to break in, getting through all nine would take serious effort.

And the two little ones weren’t exactly harmless, either.

By the time they reached the deserted meeting spot, Weasel was already waiting with the tanker and several large bundles of hose.

“I’m telling you, this is basically my entire stash right here.”

After checking the hoses and making sure everything looked fine, Nicole didn’t waste any more words

and drove off with the tanker.

Zeph sat in the passenger seat, checking the dashboard.

“The odometer’s busted, but the fuel gauge still works.”

Neither of them planned on driving the thing around the city all night anyway. That was just asking for

trouble.

After making sure nobody was following them, they drove to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts, stored the tanker inside the storage space, then left on mountain bikes.

Back home, the two of them went straight into the storage space to start filling the tanker.

They cut the hoses into different lengths and connected them to every usable faucet in the apartment, including the bathroom and balcony taps, then ran all the lines straight into the tanker parked beside the black soil garden.

More than a dozen hoses poured water nonstop into the tank.

Once everything was running, Nicole left the storage space. She collapsed onto the couch, turned on a show with her tablet, and started snacking to kill time.

Even with that many faucets going at once, filling a tanker that size still took forever.

At some point, exhaustion caught up with her, and she drifted off without realizing it.

Half asleep, she felt someone gently patting her awake.

Nicole opened her eyes and realized she had fallen asleep leaning against Zeph.

“It should be almost full by now.”

Nicole went into the storage space to check and found the tanker nearly topped off.

Meanwhile, Zeph used a siphon pump to drain some gasoline out of the truck.

That way, it would look like the tanker had actually been driven around all night, burning fuel, instead of magically staying full.

There were still more than two hours before the exchange. Not wanting to wake Poppy, Zeph stretched out on the couch in Nicole’s living room and got some sleep there instead.

He set an alarm and made sure to wake Nicole up on time.

Even though they had worked with these people before, neither of them relaxed their guard for a second. They wore body armor underneath loose long-sleeved clothes before heading out.

Under the cover of darkness, they released the tanker in an isolated area and drove it to the meeting

point.

Sven clearly didn’t trust handing the tanker over completely, either.

He brought several men with him to inspect the delivery.

After opening the valve, they filled half a basin with water. The water looked crystal clear without a trace of sediment. After taking a few drinks, they could even taste a faint natural sweetness.

It was good-quality water, way better than anything Sven had managed to get before.

Clearly satisfied, Sven immediately brought out the paintings and antiques.

“Take a look. Different periods, all high-end stuff.”

In the middle of the night, Nicole couldn’t actually tell much.

She still put on a thoughtful act, inspecting everything under a flashlight before stuffing the pieces into her backpack one by one.
