Chapter 321

Nicole and Zeph had barely gotten any sleep after coming home when Sven showed up again.
Nicole checked the time. It was a little after 5 a.m.
By noon, more than 24 hours would have passed since Fred got hurt. Plenty of people had gone looking for the vaccine, but every lead had come up empty.
With no better options, Sven had no choice but to come back to Nicole. “Well? Any luck?”
Nicole yawned. “We found some. The problem is, the man holding it isn’t easy to deal with. He’s willing to let it go, but the second he heard Tomlinson Enterprise needed it, the price got ugly.”
Sven’s eyes lit up. “If Jake can afford it, we can talk.”
Nicole hesitated. “He wants a yacht.”
Sven had expected an outrageous price. He just hadn’t expected that.
Before the apocalypse, a tetanus shot cost almost nothing. A yacht could run into the tens of millions.
Nicole saw his expression change and didn’t push.
“I don’t think it’s a fair trade either, but it’s his last dose. He wasn’t planning to sell it at all. We talked him down for a long time before he finally budged. If you can’t do it, we can turn him down.”
Sven had been around long enough not to lose his head over a number. He said quickly, “Don’t. A yacht sounds expensive, but to people with real money, it’s not that much. I’ll ask Jake now. Wait for my message.”
He rushed off without another word.
Nicole wasn’t sleepy anymore. She went up to the rooftop with the night-vision binoculars and studied the yachts docked at the far end of the harbor. They all belonged to the Tomlinsons.
Whether the Tomlinsons had owned them before the disasters or picked them up afterward made no
difference to Nicole.
She wanted one. That was all.
If the world changed again one day and dry land turned into open water, a yacht might be the difference between living and dying.
She had to think ahead.
Of course, if the Tomlinsons refused, Nicole wouldn’t force the trade. She would just find another way.
A little over an hour later, Sven hurried back. “Jake agreed, but he has one condition. He needs the vaccine before noon, and it has to work.”

“I can guarantee that much, but how do I know he’ll actually hand over the yacht?”

“Too many people know about this now. If Jake backs out after the fact, his name is finished. Nobody would ever do business with him again.” Sven lowered his voice. “And Seaborn would love nothing more than to catch him breaking a deal right now. They’d tear him apart for it.”
To be safe, Sven added, “Get the vaccine quietly. Don’t let Seaborn’s people spot you. I’m worried they’ll
try to ruin this.”
Nicole agreed. They set the meeting for 10 a.m. at the pier.
After Sven left, Nicole took her time with breakfast, tidied up the villa, and brought the two little ones with
them when they headed out.
They had barely passed the security booth at the bottom of the hill when Zeph said, “We’ve got eyes on
us.”
Nicole stilled. “Seaborn?”
The windows were tinted, so she quietly scanned the roadside. Sure enough, she caught movement in
the grass.
After they drove about a mile, the movement vanished.
“Probably a robbery crew,” Zeph said. “We’ve been going out every day to haul goods. Someone was
