Chapter 355
After leaving the research institute housing, Nicole and Zeph drove toward Grayport.
Word was the sea had started to calm, and people were trickling back. Every so often, they passed a lone figure on the road.
As they got close to the Ironvale Base checkpoint, Zeph turned onto a deserted side road.
With their disguises on, the two of them looked completely different: rough, swaggering, tattooed
They brought the two little ones along, cut across the hills, bypassed the Ironvale toll point, and headed straight for the Drakehold Base checkpoint more than ten miles away.
One of the men collecting fees lifted a baseball bat. “Stop! Are you blind? Five pounds of food per person.”
Nicole looked just like them, a cigarette hanging from her lips, her voice loose and lazy. “You really think I’m paying you? Take a look at yourself first.”
“What did you say? Say it again.”
Nicole raised her gun and fired. One shot, clean headshot.
It happened too fast. The men froze for a beat, then grabbed their weapons and rushed out.
One shot each, and they dropped, gone before they could even react.
One man was left. This time, Nicole didn’t shoot him. She grabbed a bat and brought it down hard several times, then planted her foot on his head.
“Go tell your boss to get ready. He wants to go up against Ironvale Base? Tell him to think about how much he likes being alive. Now get lost!”
Blood streaming down his face, the man scrambled up and ran, still shouting back, “You’ll regret this!”
Nicole stored the supply truck and pulled out the land beast, the Paramount Marauder.
At nearly 15 tons, it wasn’t just a vehicle. It felt like a rolling tank, built to withstand landmines and heavy blasts, with a chassis designed to absorb serious explosions. Even if the bulletproof tires were hit, it could keep moving for miles.
Nothing on the road was stopping it. Even the seats were blast-resistant.
Nicole slid into the driver’s seat. “Ready?”
Zeph didn’t answer. He just buckled in.
The Marauder roared to life, the ground vibrating under it. Nicole slammed the accelerator, and the massive vehicle surged forward at full speed.
Ironvale Base was close. At this pace, it would take minutes.
The checkpoint came into view almost instantly.
Hearing the engine, the men gathered there, drinking, perked up. “Well, look at that! Big catch rolling in.”
“Listen to that engine. That ride’s ours!”
Two of them stood, grabbing bats as they stepped out.

“Hold up, boys! Time to make some money.”
They had just walked out when the massive vehicle charged straight at them, not slowing in the slightest.
“Hey, stop the car! You…”
They never finished. Both turned and ran.
