Chapter 354
Zeph and Nicole packed through the night.
Everything they could carry went into the storage space.
The stainless steel doors came off.
They stripped both their apartments, along with the six doors on the stairwell. Two had been blown apart, but the other four were intact, so they took those, too. They would need them wherever they went next.
They didn’t stop at the doors. Blast-resistant glass, bulletproof panels, even the frames, cabinets, and curtain rods all got pulled out and packed.
All eight adult rabbits were fine, but a few of the newborns hadn’t made it through the blast.
Nicole gathered them into a cardboard box and loaded it into the Hummer’s trunk.
At 5 a.m., they drove away from Crownview Residences, the place they had lived for two years.
They stopped at the edge of the university district. Dawn was just breaking.
Nicole sat in the passenger seat, quiet, her thoughts running.
If it happened once, it would happen again. Ironvale Base wasn’t going to let this go. Running and hiding wouldn’t fix it. That wasn’t how they operated.
Zeph’s eyes hardened. “We take them out.”
End it once, or deal with it forever.
Nicole had been thinking the same thing. Avoiding it wouldn’t solve anything.
The more they backed off, the bolder the other side would get.
But going up against a base of over 200 people with just the 2 of them, especially given the weapons and explosives involved, wasn’t simple.
“Remember that first checkpoint we ran into on the way back from Grayport?”
Nicole nodded. Zeph had said that in his last life, the Westbridge and Grayport police had teamed up and taken down two of the worst groups.
“Are you thinking we get them to fight each other?”
Those checkpoints were too close not to clash. They were probably already butting heads, just waiting for the right moment to go all in.
The two exchanged a look and came to the same conclusion.
“We leave Poppy and Cola with the Goodmans for a few days?” Nicole said.
Zeph paused, then met her eyes. “We’ll need Cola. And it won’t be safe.”
Nicole hesitated, then looked at Cola. “We’re heading into something dangerous. Are you staying with Gabrielle or coming with us?”
Cola didn’t hesitate. He grabbed her clothes and held on tight.

Poppy clung to Zeph. “Don’t leave me behind!”
Zeph thought it through. “Ironvale Base already knows who we are. If we leave her, it could raise flags. They might go after the Goodmans or use her to get to us. What do you think?”
Nicole pressed her fingers to her temples.
Fine. There wasn’t a better option.
In a world like this, they couldn’t shield her forever. Some things had to be faced.
They still went to Gabrielle’s place, bringing Ash and Snowy along with the rest of the rabbits. If they didn’t come back, the rabbits would belong to the Goodmans.
Gabrielle was already up and glad to see them. When she heard they would be gone for a few days, she agreed to take the rabbits without hesitation.
Nicole brought ten pounds of rice.
Gabrielle tried to refuse. “You’ve already done so much for us. I can’t take this.”
