Felix continued, “You just got here, so we’ll get you settled first. Tonight, I’ll put together a proper welcome. I’ve had Anthony arrange a place for you, and there’s a little gift to mark the occasion.”

He clapped his hands.

More than a dozen women walked in, dressed lightly, each one different. Some were tall and striking, others soft and delicate.

There were girls barely into their teens, and women in their thirties who carried themselves with practiced ease. Every type you could think of.

Felix spread his arms, smiling.

“Go ahead, pick whoever you like. If you find someone you like, take them all. They’ll keep you company.” /

That threw Zeph off for a second.

Nicole let out a quiet, cold laugh. “Felix, we came here to join you, not for you to play games.’

Felix blinked. “What do you mean?”

“You seem to have forgotten he’s my man.” Nicole didn’t soften her tone. “You line up a dozen women in front of him and expect me to be fine with it? Should I just walk out?”

“Oh.” Felix acted as if it had just clicked. “My apologies. My hearing’s not what it used to be, and my hearing aid’s been acting up. I must’ve missed that. I thought you were a young man at first glance.”

Nicole’s hair was cut short, and with the loose clothes, she could pass for a teenage boy if you didn’t look closely.

But he knew exactly what he was doing. From the moment they walked in, he had been testing them.

That trick might work on others.

Not on them.

If what they had was that shallow, they wouldn’t have made it this far.

Felix waved the women away.

Zeph’s voice stayed cool. “I’m not interested. And don’t send men near my woman, either.”

Felix took the chance to smooth things over. “Anthony, you really put me in a bad spot there.”

Anthony stepped in right away. “That’s on me. I misunderstood, It won’t happen again. Tonight’s welcome dinner is on me. I’ll make it right.”

He gestured toward the door. “You must be tired. Let me show you to your place.”

The four of them took their leave. Felix personally walked them out to the entrance.

The moment Zeph stepped away, Felix’s expression hardened.

After seeing them off, Anthony came back.

“Boss, those two aren’t the type to fall in line. They wiped out two of our teams. We might be taking on more than we can handle. Now that they’re here, why not just take them out and be done with it? Why bother sucking up to them?”
