The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 360

Chapter 360

Anthony hesitated. “Boss, it wasn’t easy getting the base to where it is.”

Felix’s expression cooled. “Did you forget how Drakehold Base built itself up?”

Their leader had ties to someone important in Grayport. That was how they got their hands on firearms and pulled together a force so quickly, and why they dared go up against Ironvale Base for territory.

If they let it continue, their base would eventually be swallowed.

If Zeph could be used, there might be an opportunity. And if Felix misjudged him, it wouldn’t be too late to get rid of him later.

Anthony thought it over. “You want to use Zeph against Drakehold Base?”

Felix nodded, leaning back on the couch with a glass of whiskey.

“In times like these, it’s hard to dig into anyone’s background. But if I’m right, Zeph comes from the military or law enforcement, and not low rank either. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone up against the Drakebane Guild. Using him against Drakehold might give us an opening.”

Anthony still looked uneasy. “He doesn’t talk much, but he’s dangerous. He knows our people bombed the 18th floor, and he still joined us like nothing happened. We should keep our guard up.’

Felix smiled. “Once you’re inside Ironvale Base, it doesn’t matter what you are. You fall in line.”

Zeph had ability, no doubt, but he was still young. Going against the Drakebane Guild had probably just been him acting on impulse. 1

“Keep someone on them at all times,” Felix said, his smile sharpening. “If they want something from us, that works in our favor. They’ll try to prove themselves. Once they deal with Drakehold Base, we take care of them.”

There wouldn’t be anyone stronger than him inside Ironvale Base.

Anthony frowned. “But Drakehold has backing. Can Zeph really handle them?”

Felix’s smile stayed calm, but his eyes turned cold. “If he can, even better. If he can’t, we push him forward and let him take the hit. Either way, we lose nothing.”

As they discussed how to use Zeph, John Penrose rushed in.

“Boss, those Drakehold trash blew up our checkpoint!”

“What?” Felix shot to his feet.

“They drove an armored vehicle straight through. The booth and barricades are gone. We lost at least seven people. Only one made it back to report, and he bled out on the way. Heatstroke finished him off. Drakehold sent a message. They said for you to get ready.”

Felix’s face twisted, the calm gone. He smashed the glass in his hand against the floor.

“Unbelievable!”

Felix talked a big game, but the place he gave Zeph was just a small two-bedroom unit. The condition was barely decent.

Before going in, Zeph gave Nicole and Poppy a look.

Poppy walked inside, lips pressed tight. “Zeph, I want to go home.”

“The 18th floor isn’t safe anymore.”

“But I don’t like it here.” She picked at her fingers, her voice small. “It’s so cramped. Our place was bigger.”

Nicole crouched beside her. “We’ll stay here for now. It’s not much, but Zeph will make sure we get something better.”

“I want a villa. With air conditioning.”

Cola barked, as if agreeing.
