The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 362

Chapter 362

After leaving the storage space, Nicole and Zeph kept tidying up, making small talk as they went.

Before long, it was noon, and someone came by with lunch.

It was a spread of meat and vegetables, along with a bottle of strong liquor.

“I don’t drink. Should we send it back or keep it?”

“It’s Felix’s gesture. We’ll keep it. Cola likes a sip now and then.”

“Woof.” The little drunk circled Nicole, clearly excited.

“See that? Just hearing the word gets him going.”

They kept talking, but Nicole had no intention of touching the base’s food. The chances of it being poisoned were low for now, but it still didn’t sit right with her.

She stored it away and pulled out their own supplies.

Poppy put on a show, poking at her food. “Zeph, this cured meat tastes weird. It’s not as good as Nicole’s.” 1

“Don’t waste food. There are people out there chewing bark just to stay alive. When we get the chance, Nicole can cook for you again.”

After they finished eating, they pulled all the curtains shut and lay down. They talked about random things, just passing the time.

When they woke up, it was already past 5 p.m.

Someone came by to let them know dinner would be at 7 p.m.

Nicole gave Felix the courtesy of dressing properly. There would probably be women at the banquet, so she even put on a little lipstick so they wouldn’t mistake her for a boy again.

She still wasn’t comfortable about Poppy.

Leaving her behind didn’t feel safe, but bringing her along had its risks, too. In the end, she picked out simple overalls and a plain cotton T-shirt for Poppy.

To be fair, she brushed Cola’s fur as well.

When the time came, the four of them headed out.

Cola took the lead, strutting like he owned the place, ready to pounce on anything that moved.

As the sun went down, plenty of tattooed men were heading back. When they spotted Nicole and Poppy, some started whistling. 2

Cola went after them.

The unarmed ones ran for their lives, scrambling up trees, only to realize the dog could jump several feet in one leap.

Some nearly lost it from fear.

There were armed men, too, but word had already spread. Everyone knew the newcomers had the boss’s backing.

No one dared pull the trigger.

Cola’s vicious barking carried across the base. Just as he was about to tear into someone’s throat, Nicole said calmly, “Cola, back.”

The fierce dog instantly fell in line and returned to her side.

After that, no one dared provoke them.

Shaking, one of the men dropped down from a tree. “So what if they’ve got a dog? One day, I’ll take it out!”

“They wiped out two of our teams. You might want to think that through. Didn’t you see the boss bring them in himself? Give it time. They might end up running this place.” 1

The man spat and stormed off.

Under the fading light, the four of them walked slowly, chatting on the surface while quietly studying the layout of the base.

There were multiple watchtowers. Any movement, inside or out, would be spotted right away.
