Chapter 374
Using a bathroom break as cover, Nicole and Zeph slipped into the storage space.
Nicole unfolded the note. One word stared back at her: Danger.
The handwriting was uneven, deliberately disguised.
Strange. Was Anthony actually warning them?
“It’s not that strange,” Zeph said after thinking it through. “He deals with Felix more than anyone. He knows exactly what kind of man Felix is.”
Felix wasn’t just afraid of dying. He was the kind of boss who cut people loose the second they stopped being useful. No one stayed loyal to someone like that.
Anthony had been dissatisfied with him for a long time, but he didn’t have the strength to push back. This morning, he had almost been sent out as a scapegoat.
Once a line like that gets crossed, it doesn’t just go away.
Nicole thought it over. “Are you saying Anthony already knew Felix planned to get rid of us, and today pushed him to act, so now he’s trying to get close to you?”
No. Anthony wanted to use Zeph to take Felix down, let them fight it out, and then walk away with everything.
For a bunch of people with so little ability, they sure had plenty of tricks up their sleeves.
With Drakehold Base gone, someone like Felix would never leave Zeph alive. The longer this dragged out, the bigger the risk.
Nicole frowned. “So how do you think he’s going to do it? Just shoot us?”
Zeph shook his head. “He cares too much about how things look. If he kills us in front of everyone, what happens next? Who’s going to trust him after that?”
If they were right, it would be something quieter. Probably poison in the food or drinks, followed by some excuse about them disappearing or dying of illness.
Either way, tonight’s celebration was a setup.
One mistake, and it would be over.
Night fell quickly. A bonfire burned in the yard, several butchered sheep roasting over open flames, while a large iron pot simmered nearby, giving off a rich, heavy smell.
Nicole dressed Poppy in a white dress, making sure she wore pants underneath.
Cola got the same treatment, his fur brushed until it gleamed.
As the sky darkened, the tattooed men drifted into the yard, and the mood quickly turned loud and restless.
Everyone in the base showed up, eager for the celebration.
The boss had made it clear. There would be plenty of meat and liquor.
They hadn’t had a night like this in a long time. With Drakehold Base wiped out, they thought things would only get easier from here.

Zeph and the others stepped into the yard and saw guards at the entrance. No one was allowed to bring weapons inside. The excuse was that too much drinking could lead to trouble, but the real reason was Felix’s paranoia.
Nicole almost rolled her eyes. Something was seriously off about him.
Fortunately, none of the four of them were carrying weapons, so they were waved through, while anyone armed had to register and hand their gear over.
The moment Nicole stepped inside, her expression went cold.
There were far more women in the yard now, at least 40 at a glance, all different. Including the ones taken from Drakehold Base, every single one of them was being pulled into the arms of the tattooed men, laughed at or handled roughly.
