Chapter 384
“What do you mean, it’s your land? If the developer hadn’t paid you, would you have given it up? Give me a break,
one of the residents of Oakhaven Gardens groaned.
“Cut the crap! The developer’s gone, so what claim do you have left? And don’t stand there acting like the victim. You never even paid for your place,” the intruders yelled back.
The shouting went back and forth, neither side backing down.
The other side had the numbers, and once the alarm went out, residents of Oakhaven Gardens rushed over with whatever they could grab.
Men, women, the elderly, and even kids showed up.
They held iron bars, wooden sticks, hoes, bricks, kitchen knives… All crude weapons. Not a single firearm in sight.
Gun control had always been strict. Ordinary people didn’t get access to firearms. If not for everything they had been through, Nicole wouldn’t have had any either.
They had lost the last clash, and this time, the other side came prepared, fully protected. In both numbers and momentum, Oakhaven Gardens was at a disadvantage.
The truth was, they had been pushed to the edge by the heat. If they didn’t take the water, they were as good as dead.
This was a fight for survival. Their bloodshot eyes burned with hatred and envy, looking as if they wanted to tear the residents apart.
In the middle of the shoving, someone suddenly pulled a knife from behind his back and lunged straight for Alex’s
chest.
Take him out, and Oakhaven Gardens would fall apart.
Drive them out, and the water and crops would be theirs!
Nicole hadn’t planned to get involved, but the moment she saw the blade aimed at Alex, she changed her mind.
Alex looked mild, but he wasn’t slow. After all, the man used to work as a counselor. The shift in the attacker’s expression gave him just enough warning to step back.
The first strike missed. The man didn’t hesitate and came at him again.
As Nicole reached into her bag, she pulled a crossbow from the storage space and fired. She didn’t aim for his heart, only his arm.
He cried out and dropped the knife.
The others surged forward, swinging hoes and sticks. They had already decided they would take the water today no
matter what.
A sharp crack rang out.
The sound hit hard enough to make ears ring.
Both sides froze, looking around, but no one had fallen. Only the brick raised by one of the attackers had shattered.
A gun… They have a gun!

The group hesitated, no one willing to rush in first.
“Enough.” Zeph’s voice cut through as he leveled the gun at their leader. “Take another step, and you won’t like what happens.”
With a crossbow and a gun trained on him, the headman swallowed his anger and held back.
No one can outrun a bullet.
