“You’re too noticeable. People see you and start getting ideas,” Nicole said, rubbing his head. “Stay here. Don’t test anyone.”
At nearly 100 pounds, he was temptation on four legs.
“Just be patient. Once we’re somewhere better, you can do whatever you want.”
That seemed to calm him down. He rested his head against her leg.
After watching medical videos for an hour, Nicole stepped out onto the balcony to stretch. Down below, she spotted Alex taking a walk, with a dog following him.
It was a brown poodle, thin and only a few pounds, but alert.
It was the first time in two years Cola had seen another dog. He let out a low whine, pawing at the glass.
“Do you want to play or start trouble?”
Nicole had a feeling it was the latter. One bite, and the smaller dog wouldn’t stand a chance.
It wasn’t just Alex. Many residents used the early morning, the coolest part of the day, to walk around the complex.
There were older people, children, and small groups moving along the paths.
One of the kids even had a pet.
