The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 449

Chapter 449

There were too many quacks and con artists around these days, but with a head injury, it was hard not to look for a doctor.

Nicole checked Gabrielle over carefully. She had persistent throat pain, constant coughing, and lingering symptoms from a concussion. Aside from that, nothing serious.

Her mood was low. There was a quiet fear in her, the sense that death might be close.

But an upper respiratory infection wasn’t something to ignore. At her age, with weakened immunity, it could easily turn into pneumonia if it wasn’t treated.

Nicole said, “There’s nothing serious going on. You just need something to ease the cough and clear the phlegm The concussion will take time, but it’ll get better.”

Gabrielle didn’t look convinced. She sent Lydia outside, then reached for Nicole’s hand. “Tell me the truth. How long do I have?”

The Goodmans had struggled for two years to save up what little food they had. Now most of it was being used on

her.

Every extra day she lived felt like a burden to them.

If everything ran out, how would they survive?

“I’m not lying. You’re not dealing with anything serious. It’s the concussion. You just need time to recover.” Nicole kept her voice steady. “Your mindset matters more than anything right now. You’ll be alright.”

Since she was already there, Nicole went ahead and did a round of needle therapy.

At the same time, she called Lydia back in and showed her a few pressure points. “These help with headaches and dizziness. Press them whenever you can. It’ll help.” a

The treatment took effect. Gabrielle’s expression eased, and her body relaxed.

Knowing their situation, Nicole didn’t prescribe any medication. “If you can find whitebark leaves, boil them in water. It’ll help with the cough. I wouldn’t suggest anything else for now.”

She glanced around the tent.

“All four of you are staying here?”

“There’s no space,” Gabrielle said with a sigh. “Two of the research buildings collapsed. Everyone’s crammed into what’s left. Derek and Victor still have their workstations. At night, Lydia sleeps there. The men take turns staying here with me.”

She couldn’t help thinking she was dragging the young people down with her.

The environment wasn’t suitable for recovery. Nicole frowned slightly. “I could try to help you find a better place.”

Gabrielle shook her head. “There’s nothing left nearby. We’ve already looked. If it’s too far, it won’t be safe for them to travel back and forth. The place isn’t much, but at least it’s patrolled. You don’t have to worry too much about safety.”

At least here, they could see each other every day. If they moved too far, she might not even have family beside her at the end.

People valued different things.

Nicole didn’t press. After sitting with her a while longer, she stood to leave.

Lydia tried to keep them. “I made a pot of sweet potatoes and dried potatoes. You should eat before you leave.”

“Not today. We’ve got things to do.”

They said their goodbyes and left.

Back in the tent, Lydia held the herbal brew. “Do you still want to drink this?”
