The fridge wasn’t just packed, but it also had its own backup battery. Everything inside was still fresh.
Nicole didn’t even bother saying anything. She just silently thanked the boss and shoved the whole thing, fridge and all, into her storage space.
The sword and the golf club were perfect weapons during the apocalypse, and there was no point in hiding them. So, she tossed them into a bag and slung it over her shoulder.
There were a lot of supplies on the 14th and 15th floors. She went through every drawer, every cabinet, and every package carefully. Nothing got left behind.
The 13th floor was a mess of smaller companies, a startup incubator with all kinds of random businesses.
Most of them were broke. The kind of broke where people probably flipped their underwear inside out to make it last longer. There was barely anything useful to take.
Nicole was wiped out. She ate a couple of energy bars and then kept going, prying open doors.
One company caught her eye.
A nano-fabric startup.
The place was small, filled with sample materials and clothing. In the center display case sat a plain- looking silver -gray thermal shirt.
The price tag was 40 thousand dollars.
Seriously?
Nicole almost laughed. Who would pay that kind of money for a shirt?
Curiosity got the better of her. She stepped closer and read the label.
[Temperature-regulating fabric. Keeps your body at a constant 77 °F.]
Enough said.
She smashed the glass and pulled the shirt out.
So much for temperature control. She pressed against her arm, but it didn’t feel any different.
She frowned, then ran her fingers over it.
Still, the fabric was surprisingly soft and smooth, almost like silk. It clung to the skin so lightly that it barely felt like anything at all.
She stretched it, rubbed it, even held it up to check the breathability.
Not bad.
Nicole decided to take it.
For 40 thousand dollars, she might as well try it out.
If it weren’t the apocalypse, she never would’ve had the chance to wear something like this.
She took all the fabric samples, too. In the storage room, she even found about ten bolts of the same material.

She could make some good base layers out of that.
She was only halfway through the 13th floor when Jeremy finished on his end and came over to help. The moment he saw the sword and the golf club on her back, his eyes nearly popped out.
After a long pause, he gave her a thumbs-up. “You’re something else.”
“Just got lucky,” she said. “Stumbled across it.”
It was getting dark, so they needed to move faster. Nicole sent him downstairs to start hauling supplies to the
rafts.
Jeremy was exhausted, but he didn’t argue.
Working in the dark made everything harder. Nicole’s back ached so badly that she could barely stand straight, but she kept going.
If she wanted to live better in the apocalypse, she couldn’t afford to stop.
Not long after, Hughie came over to help. They had all found a decent amount.
They did a quick check and realized one raft wouldn’t be enough. The load was too heavy. Even the assault boat might not be able to handle it.
Nicole sent Hughie off to help move things, then she quietly pulled an assault boat out of her storage space. She also grabbed a one-gallon can of gas.
Now, it was out in the open. From here on, she had her own boat, too.
