The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 459

Chapter 459

Nicole and Zeph worked one day and slacked off for three. No wonder progress crawled.

It took more than a month, but they finally turned in batch after batch of timber, stone, sand, rebar, and tiles, scraping together 60 thousand points.

Nicole looked over the list of tradeable supplies. It was all basics: food, clothes, alcohol, and the like. Nothing she needed. She lost interest in saving up any further.

With that much material turned in, a lot of space had opened up in the storage space. She could expand planting again.

Zeph didn’t want Nicole to tire herself out. “Why don’t we find Weasel and see if he can get us a seeder and a harvester?”

That made sense. They were just waiting for the new district to be finished anyway. Might as well keep busy.

Except Weasel had disappeared.

They searched the trade street for several days and found nothing.

Nicole remembered that the last time he showed up on that old bike, he had mentioned that his colleague, Bob Harrington, lived somewhere near Oakhaven Gardens.

So they found Bob first, and through him, dragged Weasel out.

“What do you need me for?” Weasel was covered in dust, already in a rush. “I’ve got scavenging to do.”

His wife had her sights set on a place in the new district. Even if he sold a kidney, it still wouldn’t be enough. So he had gone all in, risking his life to make up the difference.

Nicole looked at him. “How’d you end up like this?”

Weasel let out a long breath. “Long story.”

The ocean had been contaminated by the ancient virus. That whole line of work was gone. The extreme heat ended, the temperature dropped, and water stopped being scarce.

Then, the earthquake hit. Aside from the survivors, almost everything else was buried under rubble.

Now the new district was under construction, and the city had started squeezing the wealthy hard. They were going door to door, pressuring them to donate as much as possible. Even the rich were being forced to tighten their belts.

Supplies were destroyed. The poor couldn’t afford to buy anything, and the rich didn’t dare spend. Middlemen like him were the ones getting crushed.

“Anyway, I’ve got bricks to haul,” he said.

Nicole didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. “Your boss just lets you haul bricks all day?”

“He took a bigger hit than we did. Lost a lot of stock in the quake.”

Despite getting knocked around all the time, Weasel remained unwaveringly loyal to Sven.

“He’s trying to buy a villa, but he’s got too many people under him. He can’t carry everyone. We’ve got to earn our share. Whatever we’re short, he’ll cover.”

“How many points can you make in a day like this?” Nicole asked.

“A couple dozen, maybe,” he replied. It used to be better, but not anymore.

Nicole gave it some thought and decided not to stop with the seeder and harvester. She added bicycles, tricycles, and a small electric cart as well. “If you can get all that, I’ll give you half a truck of rebar.”

Weasel froze. “Are you serious?”

“Absolutely.”

Weasel looked like someone whose mind had just been blown. Half a truck of rebar was at least two tons! His heart started racing.

“Three days. I’ll get it done in three days.”
