The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 460

Chapter 460

After confirming everything met her standards, Nicole tossed in two extra coils of rebar to make it an even three

tons.

Weasel was grinning from ear to ear. At least he wouldn’t get chewed out when he got home.

Nicole had no knack for machinery, but Zeph figured it out quickly after a bit of tinkering.

He climbed onto the seeder. “What are we planting?”

The corn was already growing well. By the time the housing was ready, it would be ready to harvest.

Nicole did a quick calculation. “It’s getting cooler. Potatoes should work.”

So they planted cold-resistant potatoes in every available patch.

Normally, they wouldn’t have dared. It would have drawn too much attention.

After planting, they still had several hundred pounds left.

Nicole paused, thinking. “What if we pass them to Alex?”

There were over 100 people in Oakhaven Gardens. Even working nonstop, not every household would be able to afford housing. Some might not even manage shared units.

Lately, even the kids had been pulled in. Everyone was pushing as hard as they could, but reality didn’t bend. Even so, the community still kept up daily patrols, guarding both the compound and the fields.

Nicole knew she couldn’t do that herself. That was why she respected Alex.

Zeph asked, “How do you want to handle it?”

Nothing came free anymore. Even if you offered, people might not trust it.

“We won’t be giving it away,” Nicole said. “We lend it. They return the seed potatoes, plus 20% of the harvest. What do you think?”

Zeph nodded. “I’ll ask.”

He picked up the radio and called Alex.

When Alex heard that the same supplier could provide seed potatoes, he was immediately interested.

“That works. Twenty percent is fine. Just make sure those potatoes stay ours. Don’t let anyone else get their hands on them.”

Zeph had gotten increasingly convincing after spending so much time with Nicole. He kept up the front. “Sure. If the harvest fails or something goes wrong, you’ll need to compensate. What collateral can you offer?”

Alex thought it over. “A solar generator. Would that work?”

“Fine. I’ll confirm tomorrow.”

Afterward, Nicole brought out the potatoes and spread them in a ventilated spot to age.

They finalized the deal the next day and completed the exchange on the third.

After two days of drying, the potatoes had shriveled just enough to look convincing. Several hundred pounds of

potatoes in exchange for the community’s solar generator.

Losing it meant no easy way to charge anything. Life would get harder.

However, Alex reassured everyone.

“Potatoes take three months. Once we harvest, we’ll recover. And in the new district, we might not even be able to. use generators. This will get us used to it.”

Cut into pieces, the potatoes could cover several acres. With proper care, the yield could be substantial. At least they wouldn’t have to rely on sweet potato shoots every day.

The residents adjusted quickly and got to work.

Zeph reminded Alex, “Make sure you guard the fields. Don’t let anyone dig them up at night.”

They organized shifts to watch the crops.

After dinner, while cleaning up, Poppy glanced outside. “Nicole, why isn’t it dark yet?”
