Chapter 496
“Nicole.”
Weasel’s face lit up when he saw Nicole. “We came to see the boss, but these damn gatekeepers won’t let us in.”
The head of security explained, “We’re not refusing to let them in. For the safety of the neighborhood, no outsiders are allowed inside unless a resident comes out to escort them.”
There was nothing wrong with the HOA making that rule. Things were chaotic outside, and if anyone could simply wander in, there would be no guarantee of safety.
But why hadn’t she been notified?
Nicole said, “Since the rules say they can’t come in alone, you could at least pass along a message.
“Sorry, but that isn’t the security team’s responsibility.”
Well, this was interesting.
Nicole shot back, “You won’t let them in, you won’t pass along a message, and there’s no phone service. So what exactly are they supposed to do?”
Weasel and the others were furious. “They’re obviously doing this on purpose.”
Neither side was willing to back down, and the tension quickly escalated.
Weasel and his crew might have been good at buying and selling, but they were no match for trained security guards. If a fight broke out, they would be the ones who got hurt.
The guards were clearly making things difficult on purpose. They had no intention of letting the group inside.
Nicole offered a compromise. “Is it urgent? I can give Sven the message when I go in and ask him to come out and meet you.”
None of them dared make their boss come out in person. “It’s nothing urgent. We just stopped by to see him.”
“Then go home for now. Have Sven register you and complete whatever paperwork they require. Once that’s done, you should be able to come in.”
That was their only option, but everyone was still furious. These people were taking things way too far.
Nicole was just as annoyed by the petty games rich people played, but the order had come from the HOA. Arguing with the security guards wouldn’t accomplish anything.
She took a deep breath, forced down her anger, and led Poppy toward the entrance.
“Ma’am.” A guard stepped in front of her. “You can’t go in.”
Nicole’s expression darkened. “I live in Villa 50. Didn’t you see me leave earlier?”
“Sorry, but you’re not in our records, so we can’t verify that you own Villa 50. Also, the owner of Villa 50 hasn’t paid the HOA fee.”
Nicole’s temper flared. “Did anyone notify me when the HOA was formed, or that I needed to pay a fee? And did anyone inform me about the new entry rules?”
“Sorry. We’re just following orders.”

“So I bought a house here, but now I’m not allowed to go home?”
“Sorry, but if you can’t prove you’re a resident, we can’t let you in.”
Nicole finally understood. The wealthy residents had banded together to shut out anyone they didn’t consider part of their social circle, hoping to drive them out of the neighborhood.
Fine. So that was how they wanted to play it.
Nicole’s gaze turned cold. “And what if I go in anyway?”
“Then we’ll have to enforce the rules. We ask that you cooperate.”
Nicole released Poppy’s hand and told her to move farther away, then strode toward the entrance.
One of the guards reached out to restrain her. Nicole clenched her fist and drove it hard into the pressure point just
below his stomach. Her strike was lightning-fast, and she put all her strength behind it.
