Chapter 514
Marcus was already lightheaded from the crash, and Eric’s scolding only made his headache worse. He couldn’t resist defending himself.
“I was just trying to see what they were capable of.”
“What they were capable of?” Eric nearly brought his cane down on Marcus’s head. “Excellent plan! You nearly got yourself killed finding out.”
Reckless as Marcus had been, the people in Villa 50 had clearly crossed a line. They had rammed the Robinsons Maybach repeatedly and threatened Marcus with explosives and a grenade.
Did they really think they could offend the Robinsons and get away with it?
Eric had no intention of letting the matter drop. He told Peter to invite the police chief over.
People that dangerous had no business living in the neighborhood.
“Dad, let me take care of this. Don’t involve the police,” Marcus said.
“You’ll take care of it?” Eric finally snapped and struck him with the cane. “Haven’t you done enough already? One of these days, you’re going to get yourself killed before you even understand what went wrong!”
If Marcus hadn’t been his son, Eric would have washed his hands of him years ago.
Thanks to the Robinsons’ connections, Jasper arrived soon afterward.
Rather than going directly inside, he examined the wrecked Maybach and questioned everyone who had witnessed the confrontation. The security guards, residents, and household staff all gave nearly identical accounts.
According to them, the family in Villa 50 was made up of dangerous, unhinged people.
They had explosives, grenades, and the ability to disarm armed men with their bare hands. Three of them had taken down twenty security guards, and they apparently slapped people whenever they lost their temper.
They sounded more like violent criminals than ordinary residents.
Once Jasper entered the Robinson residence, he turned to Marcus.
“Can you tell me exactly what happened?”
Marcus hadn’t expected the situation to spiral this far. He had only been curious about the people in Villa 50. Since he couldn’t think of a natural way to approach them, he had staged the accident to provoke a reaction.
He just hadn’t expected Nicole to respond with even more force.
“There was nothing wrong with my car,” he finally admitted after hesitating several times.
Eric’s expression changed instantly.
Jasper was no fool. He immediately realized Marcus had left out a crucial part of the story.
He knew Marcus’s reputation all too well. Before the apocalypse, the son of Westbridge’s wealthiest man had been a notorious playboy who constantly caused trouble.
If Jasper hadn’t been there as police chief, he might have said Marcus had finally run into someone who refused to tolerate his nonsense.

Maybe getting knocked around once in a while would do him some good. Men like Marcus rarely learned any other
way.
Jasper found the people in Villa 50 increasingly interesting. They had taken on half the neighborhood by themselves, openly threatened people with military-grade weapons, and shown no concern for preserving the Robinsons’ pride.
They had guts.
The residents of Villa 50 still hadn’t returned, so Jasper asked, “Do you have any pictures of them?”
Of course they did. The security office had copies of their registration photos.
Jasper studied the pictures closely. The people in them looked extremely familiar.
“Do they have a Belgian Malinois, too? A large one, clearly well trained and in excellent condition?”
“Yes. Their dog nearly mauled another resident’s alpaca to death a few days ago.”
Jasper stared at the photos for so long that Eric immediately sensed something was wrong.
“Chief Anderson, is there something unusual about these people?”
There was. Jasper just wasn’t sure how to explain it.
