Chapter 515
Now, that infamous group had turned up at Brighton Estates.
Jasper couldn’t explain why, but he had a feeling the public trial wasn’t actually the first time he crossed paths. with them. It might have happened even earlier, possibly with the Drakebane Guild in Liora Estates.
Of course, that was only a theory.
If he was right, Nicole and Zeph were far more interesting than they seemed.
Jasper thought it over several times before saying slowly, “Mr. Eric, could we speak in private?”
Eric looked surprised, but he immediately sent Marcus and everyone else out of the room.
Once they were alone, he said, “Go ahead.”
Jasper chose his words carefully. “Those two do have unusual backgrounds. I can’t explain exactly what makes them unusual, at least not right now.”
After a brief pause, he continued, “Let me put it this way. Have you heard about the two criminal bases the police raided last year?”
“I heard something about it.” Both bases had been shut down in a single day.
“Six months ago, more than 300 refugees rioted at a temporary resettlement site and tried to rob the residents of Oakhaven Gardens. Oakhaven didn’t lose a single person, and they managed to drive the attackers back. Did you hear about that?”
Since returning to Westbridge, the Robinsons had naturally gathered information on everything that had happened in the area. Eric knew about the incident, but not what had really gone on behind the scenes.
“The worse things get, the more important it is to treat people fairly and show each other some respect. As long as everyone can do that, I believe Brighton Estates will remain peaceful.”
Jasper couldn’t reveal anything more, so he left it at that. He rose to his feet and said, “We’ll continue looking into the incident. You’ll be notified immediately if there are any developments.”
Eric’s expression changed. He personally walked Jasper to the door. “Thank you for looking into this. My son started the whole thing, and I’ll make sure he answers for it.”
“Keep this quiet until the investigation is over.”
Before leaving, Jasper gave him one final warning.
“The disasters have already taken enough from us. We don’t need to make things worse by turning on each other. I hope Brighton Estates will work with the city and help Westbridge rebuild.”
The message was clear. They needed to stop wasting time on petty feuds and power struggles.
Eric had spent his entire life in business. He understood exactly what Jasper meant. “You’re absolutely right.”
Before the apocalypse, even the police chief wouldn’t have dared speak to the Robinsons that way.
The moment Jasper left, Eric summoned Marcus. Without a word, he hurled a coffee mug at the latter.
Marcus ducked just in time. “What did I do now?”

Eric glared at him. “If you want to stay alive, stay away from Villa 50.”
Marcus’s curiosity immediately intensified. “Why? Do they have powerful connections?”
Eric had no intention of telling his reckless son the truth. Anyone the police chief was willing to protect personally had to be someone important. No wonder the people in Villa 50 acted as though they feared no one.
“Don’t ignore me,” Eric warned. “If I catch you going anywhere near them again, I’ll break your legs myself!”
After leaving the Robinson residence, Jasper didn’t drive away. Instead, he had his driver park just outside the neighborhood entrance.
About half an hour later, a Hummer came down the road. The people involved in the incident were back.
When Zeph spotted the police car, he slowed down. “Should we stop?”
“Pull over,” Nicole said.
Whatever was coming, they would have to deal with it sooner or later. There was no point avoiding it.
