Chapter 563
Besides, Dumbo, Cola’s loyal sidekick, was still at the Robinsons’ villa.
Polar night was much harder to endure than polar day.
During polar days, people only had to close the curtains. As long as they stayed inside the neighborhood, they were relatively safe.
Polar night was different. Crime could hide anywhere in the darkness, and no one knew when or where danger might strike.
Someone who smiled and greeted you every day could reveal a completely different side in the dark and turn a weapon on you without hesitation.
The constant tension was almost unbearable.
Suddenly, Jeremy’s voice came through the radio.
“Nicole, are you and Zeph alright?”
Behind him came a deafening mix of crashes and shattering glass, some close and some far away, as though the entire city had erupted into chaos.
“We’re fine,” Nicole replied. “What about you?”
“Stay safe, and don’t come outside unless you absolutely have to.” Jeremy sounded frantic, struggling to catch his breath. “Everything’s gone to hell! People are looting, smashing things, and setting fires everywhere.”
It had only been three days, yet the chaos had spread like an outbreak in a disaster movie.
At first, only organized gangs were robbing people.
Before long, some of the victims put on masks, picked up kitchen knives, and turned on others who were just as desperate as they were.
Polar night had unleashed the worst in people, and the violence spread faster than any disease.
The poorest districts were the first to erupt. Crowds flooded the streets, smashing streetlights and windows, battering storefronts with metal pipes, and forcing their way into one apartment building after another.
The police had prepared in advance, but there was only so much they could do.
They had recruited more officers and expanded the civilian patrols, but when the rioters surged forward like a tidal wave, the defenders were swept aside.
Anyone in uniform became an immediate target. Countless people fell in pools of blood and never got back up.
Nicole’s chest tightened. “What about you? Staying alive comes first. Don’t try to be a hero.”
“We’re alright.” Jeremy lowered his voice. “The police can’t hold this area. The rioters will probably reach your neighborhood soon, so be careful…”
Before he could finish, a piercing scream rang out on Nicole’s side.
Nicole shot to her feet and headed for the roof.
“What’s wrong?” Jeremy asked through the radio.

“It started here, too, but we have high walls and an electric fence. Even if the rioters make it here, they won’t come after us first.”
Nicole quickly ended the call. She put on her night-vision goggles and rushed upstairs.
The screams were coming from Villa 32, still a fair distance from Villa 50.
Nicole raised her binoculars and saw more than a dozen armed men pouring out of the house. They were wearing neighborhood security uniforms.
A barefoot young woman in a lace nightgown ran out of the villa, but one of the men grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back inside.
Nicole vaguely recognized her. She was one of Camila’s close friends and was among the loudest people insulting Nicole during the alpaca incident. Her brother was the one who had slapped Kyle.
Women screamed inside the villa as several men were hauled into the front yard, including the arrogant young heir who usually acted as though no one could touch him.
Kyle strode in surrounded by several guards, without a trace of his usual deference.
