The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 570

Chapter 570

After Irene repeatedly challenged his father in front of everyone, Marcus had no intention of humoring her

He said sarcastically, “What century are we living in? Men and women are equal. Women can do anything men can

Several people in the crowd coughed awkwardly.

His wording was blunt, but this was the apocalypse. Most families could barely take care of themselves, much less anyone else.

Irene’s tears might have moved people once, but now everyone was too worried about their own survival to fee sorry for her.

The majority ruled, and most of the homeowners supported the proposal.

There were 44 households left in the neighborhood, which meant they could provide 44 people. Split into 2 shifts, 22 residents would patrol at a time, keeping watch around the clock while every home left its exterior lights on.

For now, each household would also clear the bodies from the area around its own property. The dead would be gathered in one place and burned with gasoline. Residents with less cleanup to handle would form teams to clear the homes where entire families had been killed.

These wealthy residents had spent their entire lives being waited on. None of them had ever done work this filthy or exhausting.

They had plenty of complaints, but no one dared to voice them.

The Robinsons were the most powerful family in the neighborhood, and everyone still depended on them for protection.

But faced with blood everywhere and bodies frozen in gruesome positions, one person after another bent over and

vomited.

Zeph and Nicole didn’t complain. They had more work than anyone else because most of the dead had fallen near Villa 50.

They went home, changed into protective suits, and returned to help.

Neither of them held back. They dragged the bodies away themselves.

Villa 49 had also been attacked, but Villa 50 had taken care of the rioters there, so Sven joined the cleanup.

Brandon was frightened, but when he saw Poppy helping, he forced himself to come outside.

“Dad, I’ll help, too.”

He was almost 11. Sven knew he couldn’t protect him from everything forever. “Alright. Just be careful.”

There were too many bodies to haul all the way to the designated burn site, so the two households dealt with them nearby. They carried them to an open patch of grass, soaked them in gasoline, and set them on fire.

The fire burned for hours until little remained.

Afterward, the two families dug a pit and buried the ashes.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. May they find peace beyond this ruined world.

Sven was the only adult in Villa 49, and he had to take his turn on patrol, so he asked Nicole to watch Brandon

Given the circumstances, Nicole agreed. She worried Brandon might be scared sleeping alone downstairs, so she had Cola stay with him on the first floor.

If not for the patrol, Nicole never would have realized how much Sven loved tactical gear. He had a bulletproof vest, a helmet, a handgun, a stun baton, and even a pair of pointed dress shoes that looked capable of doing real damage.

Nicole nearly laughed. “Be careful out there.”

Since Zeph was on patrol, the rest of the family adjusted their sleep schedule to match his.

Nicole read and exercised, Poppy taught Brandon how to fight, and Cola quietly slipped away to accompany Zeph on patrol.

When Dumbo saw his idol heading out in full gear, he tried to follow.

Jason stopped him. The neighborhood only had two dogs capable of helping with patrols, and Dumbo had been assigned to the other shift.

Marcus looked disappointed. He wondered why Nicole hadn’t come.

Jason adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. “And you still expect me to believe you’re not interested in her?”

Marcus immediately hit him where it hurt. “What about you? Don’t you miss Valerie anymore?”

The reminder brought Jason’s grief rushing back. “The only reason I’m still alive is to find her.”
