Chapter 576
Metal pipes hammered against the patrol car, cracking the windows.
Bang!
Several gunshots rang out, but they did nothing to stop the rioters from climbing onto the vehicle and attacking it. from every side.
The mob had completely lost control. They swarmed the car and tried to overturn it. With a deafening crash, the patrol car flipped onto its roof.
Several officers were dragged out, all of them covered in blood.
Zeph slammed on the brakes. “Chief Anderson’s in there.”
Nicole stared in shock. Without the military there to intimidate them, the rioters had no fear of the police.
She hesitated.
They could still drive away, but those officers would die. Someone else would eventually take over the police station, but would the new commander be as responsible and dedicated as Jasper?
Without Jasper, her anonymous warnings never would have been taken seriously, and the Drakebane Guild never would have been wiped out. There was no telling how many people would have died because of them.
He had also returned every bit of the confiscated food to the public both times without keeping anything for himself.
“Does the law mean nothing anymore?”
Marcus, who knew just enough criminal law to make trouble, cursed as he pulled weapons from inside his military coat.
He had just started to get up when he noticed that Nicole and Zeph hadn’t moved. He paused.
“Or we could pretend we didn’t see anything?”
There were only three of them. Charging into the mob would be suicide. They wouldn’t save Jasper and the others. They would only get themselves killed, too.
Marcus realized he had gotten carried away.
He was about to put his gun away when Zeph suddenly lowered the window, raised his weapon, and fired at the rioters wielding metal pipes.
Marcus’s eyes nearly popped out.
Zeph’s aim was terrifying. Three shots, three headshots. Another second, and Jasper’s skull would have been crushed.
The gunfire drew the rioters’ attention. The moment they spotted the vehicle in the distance, they surged toward it like a horde of zombies.
At the same time, Nicole lit a Molotov cocktail from the passenger seat, jumped out, and hurled it into the charging mob.
