The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 601

Chapter 601

Nicole finally felt everything click into place. She looked at Zeph. “You’ve clearly been thinking about this for a while, so why were you still so patient with me?

“Because you’re my wife. Of course, I’m-patient with you.”

They couldn’t legally get married in a world like this, but as far as Zeph was concerned, Nicole had already been his wife for a long time. If the apocalypse had never happened, they might even have had kids by now.

Nicole had her flaws and could be stubborn, but she was never unreasonable. As long as she didn’t cross a line, he didn’t mind indulging her once in a while.

If anything, he worried that he was too quiet and that she might eventually find him boring.

“Thank you.” Nicole rested her head against his shoulder. “If I ever start getting carried away, tell me. Don’t just keep it to yourself.”

It wasn’t often that she let her guard down like this, and Zeph’s mood immediately shifted. “So how are you planning to thank ne?”

Nicole glanced at him. “How do you want me to?”

A teasing look crossed his face. “Call me ‘Honey.””

Vicole burst out laughing. She leaned in, gave his ear a playful bite, and murmured, “Honey.”

Poppy and Cola were still downstairs playing.

Zeph’s pulse quickened as he swept Nicole into his arms. “We just got ourselves a helicopter. I think that deserves a proper :elebration.”

The door closed behind them, and the lights came on.

After the crackdown, the neighborhood became noticeably quieter. For several days, no raiders were seen trying to get over the walls.

The residents had also grown used to living in near-total darkness. Their hearing had become so sharp that some could recognize who was coming just from the sound of their footsteps.

A tall person sounded different from a short one. Men, women, children, and older people all moved differently, and shoes made their own distinct sounds. After enough time on patrol, it was often easy to tell a resident from an outsider before they even came into view.

Some residents even turned it into a game to make patrol duty less miserable. They would bet on who could identify someone by their footsteps, with the loser giving up a cigarette or a handful of peanuts.

A familiar bark broke through the darkness outside.

Cola immediately jumped to his feet, tail wagging with excitement. Apparently, he really had grown fond of Dumbo, his little sidekick.

Nicole let him out to play, but the usual rule still applied. He had to stay inside the designated area.
