The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 608

Chapter 608

The table was loaded with food. One pot held a spicy fish stew, while platters of thinly sliced beef, lamb, and pork were laid out beside it for grilling.

There were plenty of sides as well, including meatballs, mushrooms, roasted potatoes, corn, and mixed vegetables.

Before the disasters, Marcus wouldn’t have looked twice at a meal like this unless it came from some ridiculously expensive restaurant. But the moment he caught the smell of grilled meat and spicy stew, memories he hadn’t thought about in years came rushing back.

“You”re seriously good at this.”

Nicole gestured for everyone to sit. “I made the stew and marinades myself, Dig in.”

Sven lived up to his reputation as a smooth talker, complimenting Marcus without missing a beat. Nicole was perfectly happy to let him carry the conversation while she focused on eating.

“Marcus, you really went all out. This isn’t just whiskey. It’s practically a collector’s piece!”

Still laying it on thick, Sven opened the 1982 bottle before Marcus could reconsider.

“Alright, let’s see what a 150-thousand-dollar whiskey tastes like.”

At 150 thousand dollars a bottle, even a small pour was worth thousands. Just thinking about it was enough to make anyone

wince.

The whiskey was rich and smooth, with a deep flavor and a long, warm finish.

Nicole nearly teared up after two glasses. She finally got to taste the good stuff.

Sven kept piling on the praise. “Now this is whiskey! A few more glasses of this, and I’ll die happy.”

Sven loved to exaggerate, but Marcus was even worse. “What’s the big deal? I used to drink this stuff like water.”

Apparently, none of them knew how to speak normally anymore.

Still, as Nicole sipped the ridiculously expensive whiskey, Jason suddenly came to mind. Maybe she felt a little guilty about taking dozens of cases from him, because she casually asked, “How’s Jason doing?”

“He’s stuck taking medication now.” Marcus sighed sympathetically as he kept piling meat onto his plate. “They confirmed it. Severe delusional disorder.”

Marcus just couldn’t understand it. Jason had everything going for him, so how did he let one woman consume him so completely that he nearly destroyed himself over her?

Maybe Valerie died such a terrible death that even her ghost refused to leave him alone.

Nicole didn’t get it, either. “Can he recover?”

If he cared that little about staying alive during the apocalypse, he might as well throw himself into the sea and be done with it,

“Honestly, part of me wishes he wouldn’t take the meds.”

Once his head cleared, he would have to face everything all over again. But with Wendy calling the shots, he didn’t exactly have a choice.

Maybe ignorance really was bliss. Marcus was living proof. He felt sorry for Jason, but that didn’t slow him down at dinner one

bit.

Nicole glanced at him. “Marcus, do they not feed you at home or something?”

“You don’t understand.”

The food was spicy enough to make him sweat, and he looked happier with every bite.

“My dad eats like he’s on some kind of permanent health kick. Everything’s low-sodium, low-fat, and barely seasoned. Half the time, dinner tastes like hospital food.”

Whatever Eric ate, the rest of the family had to eat, too. Marcus complained once, only to get dirty looks from everyone else and a beating from his father.

The memory made him reach for another spoonful of sauce.

“This is so good. Nicole, I need two jars of this.”

He didn’t even bother asking properly. At this point, he was treating her place like his own.

Marcus wasn’t the only one eating like there was no tomorrow. Dumbo was just as bad, polishing off a food bowl the size of a mixing bowl in seconds.

Even after stuffing himself, Marcus still refused to leave.
