The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 621

Chapter 621

Mitchell continued, “And we have to win. If we don’t, the consequences will be unimaginable.”

He looked at Nicole.

“Would you be willing to join us?”

Nicole’s mind went blank for a moment. It took her several seconds to find her voice.

“I would.”

She had been trying to figure out how to get involved anyway. She had spent years preparing for this battle.

“Good. Then you need to be ready at all times. The moment the smog arrives and patients begin showing sytnptoms we can observe clinically, we’ll be racing against the clock.”

Nicole opened her mouth, wanting to ask what preparations the research institute had made, but stopped herself. 1

After so many years of natural disasters, most sophisticated testing equipment had already been destroyed. At this point, they probably couldn’t even manufacture basic supplies like protective suits and masks.

Nicole drove back to Westbridge with a heavy heart.

That night, after thinking it over for a long time, Nicole finally contacted Sven. “Can you get your hands on any protective suits, masks, or rubbing alcohol?”

“It’s been years since the disasters started. Even if any of that stuff is still out there, it’s probably expired by now.”

Nicole paused and realized he was right. After years of one extreme climate disaster after another, even properly stored supplies probably wouldn’t have lasted this long.

She went over the medicinal herbs she had stored over the years. Luckily, she had grown plenty of mugwort. She could process it into mugwort floss, which might at least offer some antibacterial protection.

“I saw Professor Dixon today.” Nicole described what the elderly man looked like, then turned to Zeph. “Was that him?”

Zeph nodded. “Yeah. That was Professor Dixon.”

Nicole also told him Mitchell invited her to join the research team. She wanted to help, but she still worried about leaving Zeph, Poppy, and Cola behind.

“Maybe when the time comes, we can figure out a way for all of us to go together?”

As long as the smog-related illness hadn’t changed, and the two most important medicinal ingredients were already prepared, this battle shouldn’t be as difficult as it had been in her previous life.

Zeph didn’t object. “Yeah. We’ll see what things look like when the time comes.”

The polar night continued, and two weeks passed in the blink of an eye.

Half asleep, Nicole suddenly sensed an unusually bright light. She slowly opened her eyes and saw light filtering through the window.

The sunlight wasn’t harsh. If anything, it looked dim and strangely gray, as though the entire sky were shrouded in dust.

Nicole suddenly realized what was happening and reached for the curtains.

It was daylight.

Polar night was over.

She could finally see the sunt again, but through the smog, its light looked dull and lifeless, as though countless layers of dust hung between the earth and the sky.

She expected the butterfly affect to change things, but she didn’t expect two disasters to overlap.

According to Zeph’s memories, the smog hadn’t arrived until about two weeks after polar night ended.

With no wind to disperse it, the smog spread slowly

At first, it was so faint that everyone mistook it for ordinary fog. Then people started coughing whenever they went outside.

Those who stayed out too long came back with a layer of gray dust coating their facès. Eventually, the smog grew so thick that visibility dropped below 15 feet.
