“You spent years spreading rumors and stirring up trouble just because you thought some newly rich outsider had no business living around people like you.
“You still act like your family name makes you better than everyone else. Those days are over.
“I gave you chance after chance, and every time, you turned around and caused more trouble. You even used Larry’s death to rile up his wife against us.
“So tell me, why should I help you now? If you’re sick, deal with it. And if you die, that’s on you.”
“That’s not true! I never did any of that.”
Jocelyn got so angry she nearly passed out trying to catch her breath. But she knew she was the one asking for help, so she forced herself to calm down.
“Niccle, there’ve been a lot of misunderstandings between us. Just let me explain…”
Nicole didn’t care. She twisted the throttle and sped away.
There was no way Jocelyn could catch up in her condition.
Once Nicole got back to Villa 50, she sprayed herself down thoroughly with rubbing alcohol.
She went out back to check on Ash and Snowy. Both rabbits were curled up in their enclosure, calmly munching on hay.
At every meal, Nicole made sure everyone drank the herbal brew. After that came two hours of intense sparring.
That evening, just after dinner, Sven’s voice came over the radio.
“Nicole, switch to the neighborhood channel.”
His voice sounded hoarse, and Nicole frowned. “You’re sick, too?”

Chapter 677
“My throat’s itchy and sore. Feels like I’m swallowing razor blades ”
Sven gave a strained laugh, then seemed to reassure himself.
“Brandon felt a little better after he drank the herbal medicine you gave us.”
Nicole hummed. “Keep giving it to him. You should drink some, too. It may help keep you from getting sick.”
As Nicole switched channels, loud pounding suddenly came from downstairs.
“Dr. Floyd, we’re here to trade for medicine! Please open the door!”
It wasn’t just one person. A whole crowd had gathered outside. Some covered their mouths and noses with handkerchiefs, while others had wrapped shirts or scarves around their faces.
Nicole ignored them and kept adjusting the radio.
The neighborhood channel was a mess.
Between coughing fits, Jocelyn sobbed as she accused Nicole of hoarding medicine, calling her heartless and selfish and claiming she was willing to let people die.
After everything that happened in the past, especially during polar night, no one in the neighborhood took Villa 50 lightly
anymore.
Nicole and Zeph also got along well with the Robinsons, so most people tried to stay on their good side. Even those who disliked them usually kept their mouths shut.
Jocelyn, though, clearly felt she had nothing left to lose.
Elana joined in as well. Jocelyn had already worked her up over Larry’s death, and now the two of them fed off each other, wailing and complaining like they were putting on a show.
The smarter residents kept quiet. Instead, they went straight to Villa 50 and tried to get on Nicole’s good side.
They might’ve been afraid of Villa 50, but they were even more afraid of dying.
Nicole couldn’t be bothered with any of them. She just held the radio and listened like it was free entertainment.
She wasn’t upset, but Beatrice immediately lost her temper.
“Even if Nicole does have medicine, why the hell should she give it to you? Who do you think you are? Keep talking, and I’ll come over there and rip your front door off!”
The moment she finished, Weasel jumped in.
His group of middlemen might not have been good at much else, but they sure knew how to talk. Insult after insult came flying over the channel until Jocelyn got so worked up that she could barely stop coughing.
“Mrs. Shaw, I’d save your breath if I were you. Wouldn’t want you passing out on us.”
Marcus finally chimed in, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Who told you Nicole has medicine? I’m practically family with her, and even I didn’t know she had any. So maybe quit wasting your breath. At this rate, you’ll cough yourself unconscious before the smog gets you.
“The smog just showed up, and even the government experts are still trying to figure out how to treat whatever illness it’s causing. So stop spreading rumors and getting everyone worked up. What are you trying to do, turn the whole neighborhood against itself?

“People here aren’t stupid. You really think a few things you say are enough to send everyone running to Nicole’s door begging for medicine?”
The crowd of “idiots” currently gathered outside Villa 50 went dead silent.
Jocelyn dared go after Nicole, but she wasn’t about to pick a fight with the Robinsons.
“Cough…cough… I never said she had a cure, but she does have medicinal herbs. Several families are already taking them…”
“So what? Does that mean her herbs suddenly belong to you? After all the crap you’ve pulled, how do you even have the nerve to ask her for anything?”
Marcus, son of the richest man in Westbridge, had an impressive talent for swearing.
