The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 626

Chapter 626

Nicole watched for hours before she finally saw several people in white protective suits come out of the station. Jasper, wearing a mask, walked with them, along with several police officers.

Experts from the alternative medicine research institute had come to inspect the herbs, but there was no way to tell just by looking whether they were contaminated. The safest choice was to take everything back to the institute for testing.

After years of natural disasters, doctors had become harder and harder to find, and most survivors had little choice but to tough out whatever illnesses came their way. Two truckloads of medicinal herbs had arrived at exactly the right time.

Jasper hadn’t worked with the institute before, but given how important the herbs were, he made a point of reminding Mitchell, “Dr. Chapman, these herbs were anonymously donated by someone in Westbridge specifically to treat the smog-related illness. I hope they’ll be used for that.”

Mitchell shook his hand. “Don’t worry, Chief Anderson. We’ll respect the donor’s wishes and make sure they’re used for that purpose. If you ever get the chance, please pass along our thanks.”

Jasper couldn’t help asking, “Do you think these herbs can actually treat the illness?”

“It’s too early to tell, but they’re all useful for supporting the liver and lungs. And judging by the quality, they’re excellent.”

As they spoke, two large trucks pulled into the station. A group of soldiers climbed out and quickly loaded the medicinal herbs before escorting the research institute staff back to Grayport.

After another round of handshakes, the trucks slowly drove away.

Nicole lowered her binoculars, deep in thought.

The research institute had the best protective gear, with the military and police not far behind. It seemed the government had been preparing for the smog for some time.

Hopefully, that meant they still had a chance to get it under control.

Nicole rode her small electric scooter back to the neighborhood. Along the way, she heard faint coughing coming from several houses, and her guard immediately went up.

Was this illness really going to spread faster than a flood or wildfire?

“D-Dr. Floyd.”

Someone suddenly stumbled out of Villa 19, coughing and wheezing as she approached.

“Do you have any medicine?”

“No.” Nicole didn’t even blink. “And even if I did, I wouldn’t give it to you.”

If it had been anyone else, she might’ve been more polite.

But with Jocelyn, she couldn’t be bothered.

“H-How can you be so heartless? You obviously have medicine, and you still won’t share it?”
