The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 633

Chapter 633

Poppy’s face was flushed bright red from the fever, and her voice was so hoarse that it sounded like she had coughed herself raw. “Zeph, I feel awful. Am I gonna die?”

“Don’t say that. You’re gonna get through this.”

Nicole took out some ice to help cool her down and reassured her, “Zeph and I are both getting better. You will too.

It was a stark reminder of how much good nutrition and regular exercise mattered. Being in good physical condition gave the body a better chance of fighting off infection, and even when someone did get sick, it could make the illness easier to withstand.

Compared with most survivors, the three of them were incredibly fortunate.

They caught the infection early, started treatment quickly, and were otherwise healthy. Little by little, their condition was improving.

After years of natural disasters, however, many survivors were already in poor health. Three years of polar night without sunlight had only made things worse, leaving many of them gaunt and unnaturally pale.

Some patients would cough until they suddenly brought up blood, sometimes with bits of damaged tissue mixed

Nicole had personally seen patients rushed away for emergency treatment and never return.

She was grateful that all the effort she had put into keeping them healthy over the years hadn’t been wasted. The herbal remedies they had been taking regularly seemed to have helped keep their symptoms from becoming more

severe.

Nicole stopped taking her own formula and switched entirely to the medicine prescribed by the institute. As her symptoms continued to fade, she wondered aloud, “Do you think Wesley’s come up with something that can actually stop the virus?”

“I hope so.” Zeph had already started doing some light exercise again.

Seeing how much of his strength had returned, Nicole asked, “How bad was this compared to last time?”

Zeph thought for a moment. “Not even close.”

This infection was still miserable, but the symptoms never went beyond what he could handle. No matter how hard he coughed, he never brought up blood or damaged tissue.

In critically ill patients, the virus could ravage the liver and lungs, leaving the tissue badly damaged. That was why so many patients ended up choking during severe coughing fits.

None of the four of them had coughed up blood, which suggested the damage to their lungs and livers wasn’t too severe. Hopefully, whatever damage had been done would heal. Otherwise, they could be left with lasting health problems.

After another five days in isolation, Nicole and Zeph’s symptoms disappeared completely. Mitchell and Howard, however, unexpectedly took a turn for the worse.

More and more doctors were getting sick, including the medical teams who had come from Pinecrest, Glenmere, and Ashmont to help. Before long, there were barely any healthy medical personnel left.

Nicole stopped isolating and went straight to Wesley to volunteer.

Hello. I’m one of Dr. Chapman’s students. My partner and I were infected recently, but we’ve been symptom- free for several days now. If you think we’re well enough, we’d like to help.”

Wesley looked even thinner than before, but despite his age, he was still alert and remarkably composed.

Because of his age and standing in the medical community, the other doctors had been doing everything they could to protect him. He was kept in full protective gear at all times, and no matter how much he protested, they refused to let him enter the highest-risk wards.

Wesley examined both of them carefully.

“You should be in the clear. Keep taking the medicine for another two days just to be safe. Watch yourselves closely, and let us know immediately if anything feels wrong. Don’t push yourselves too hard.”

Then he asked, “You were taking something preventively before you got sick, weren’t you?”
