The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 646

Chapter 646

There was no point in the victims crying for help. Every household had already been hit hard by the virus. Nobody still had the strength or energy to get involved.

Whatever someone managed to take was theirs. Of course, some homeowners fought desperately to protect what they had, but they often paid with their lives, or ended up with an infected person coughing blood all over them.

In short, the villa district had descended into chaos.

Still, it was a different kind of chaos from the lawlessness outside. As long as no one openly crossed the line, everyone could still pretend they were decent, respectable people.

Some residents resented how many supplies Hughie and Jeremy’s group had collected and talked behind their backs, but the four of them had survived the apocalypse and fought their way back from the brink. They couldn’t care less about gossip.

As long as no one came knocking, they pretended nothing was wrong. If someone did come looking for trouble, they made sure they regretted it.

Quite a few people had actually set their sights on Villa 50, but Beatrice and Diana caught them more than once.

They might have been women, but they were tougher than most men. A few would-be thieves nearly got beaten half to death, and after that, no one dared mess with Villa 50 again.

Beatrice handed Nicole a list. “Take a look. See if there’s anything you need.

Nicole had no intention of taking anything, but since Beatrice offered, she figured she should at least look over the list.

She pretended to study it carefully, then handed it back. “We’re doing fine for now. If we need anything later, I’ll let you know.”

Nicole and Zeph went up to the roof to help install the solar generator, while Beatrice and Diana made dinner.

They had made it through the worst of the illness, but it had taken a serious toll on all of them. They needed to build their strength back up as quickly as possible.

Almost all the poultry they raised so carefully through the polar night died. Only one hen, one drake, and two quail were left.

Diana slaughtered the duck for dinner and made scrambled eggs with black moss, along with some braised dried vegetables.

They hadn’t thrown out the poultry that died from the illness, either. They either cooked and ate it or dried it for later.

Diana knew Nicole and Zeph ate better than they did, so she didn’t dare serve them any of it. The last thing she wanted was to make them sick.

The smog was still extremely thick. As they worked on the installation, Nicole gave them a reminder.

“The experts said the volcanic ash is mildly acidic. If it keeps hanging around, contaminated soil might be the least of our worries. If it rains, we could be looking at acid rain. You should probably find a way to cover the panels with glass. Otherwise, they might not last long.”
