The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 659

Chapter 659

screams and cries for help never stopped. The lobby reeked of acid rain and burned flesh.

Nicole reacted immediately. She slung her bag over her shoulder and shouted, “Dr. Chapman, we need to leave… Now.”

They were doctors, but they had no medicine or supplies with them. There was almost nothing they could do for burns this severe.

Anyone exposed to the acid rain needed to get contaminated clothing, underwear, shoes, and socks off immediately, cutting them away if necessary. Then the burned areas had to be flushed thoroughly with large amounts of running water.

After that, the wounds needed to be treated with a 5% sodium bicarbonate solution for five to ten minutes, then rinsed again with water for another five minutes or so.

Next came debridement to remove any remaining contaminants, followed by sterile dressings before the patient could be taken to a hospital.

Treating even one severely burned patient would take a huge amount of time and medical supplies, let alone this many people. And the square didn’t even have running water.

The fact that people had suffered such serious burns in such a short time showed just how strong the acid rain was. Anyone who touched someone soaked in it could end up burned, too.

Mitchell and the others quickly realized the same thing.

They were doctors. They were supposed to save lives, yet now, they had no choice but to leave without helping anyone. The guilt hit them hard.

“Dr. Chapman, it’s not that we don’t want to help. We literally don’t have the supplies to treat them.”

The injured were desperate for help, but once they realized the doctors couldn’t do anything, there was no guarantee they would stay calm or see it from the doctors’ side.

In a situation like this, panic could turn into violence fast. That was why conflicts between doctors and patients never truly went away.

The group grabbed their bags and hurried toward the rear exit, leaving the tables and chairs behind.

But they were still too late.

The first injured people to make it into the lobby instinctively searched for the doctors, only to find the medical station deserted.
