Chapter 67
Nicole scanned the area and spotted rabbit droppings.
Cola really didn’t waste anything. Starving all the time had made him even more serious about food than she was. Even wild rabbits weren’t safe.
Rabbits had multiple burrows.
Nicole searched nearby and quickly found one of the openings. She packed it shut with mud.
Not long after, a gray blur shot out from another hole and bolted.
Cola took off like lightning. He caught the wild rabbit by the neck and slammed it to the ground. A few shakes later, it stopped moving.
He trotted back, carrying it proudly.
Look! Meat!
After enjoying a quick head rub, he went right back, digging again.
Another rabbit came out, but he didn’t stop. Then three more appeared, all medium-sized. A whole family, all together.
Wild rabbits weren’t like farm ones. There was no point raising them. And with all the meat Nicole had now, she didn’t need them alive anyway.
She killed them and stored them away.
On the way back, she made a detour to the construction site where Zeph butchered the pig earlier. She cleared out the rest of the building materials from the nearby buildings and added everything to storage.
When the items vanished, Cola froze, eyes wide.
“Woof?”
Nicole rubbed his head. “Don’t worry. It’s just magic.”
By the time they got back to the complex, it was getting dark. Eyes were still watching from everywhere.
When they saw that Nicole was only carrying a bundle of firewood, some of that tension eased.
So the 18th floor didn’t always get lucky either.
The moment she got upstairs, Jeremy came out to meet her. “What took you so long? Hughie and I were about to go look for you.”
Nicole sounded tired. “I checked a bunch of places. Couldn’t find a single bag of dog food. Not even a moldy piece of bread.”
“Everything nearby has been picked clean,” Hughie said, worried. “I heard some buildings got hit by looters. Even if we stay in, we need to be careful.”
She gave a quick response, then went back to her place. She changed out of her wet clothes and pulled some greens from the balcony.
The vegetables had been growing better with the nutrient solution. The leaves were still a little pale compared to

normal sunlight-grown ones, but considering the constant rain, it wasn’t bad.
Eating nothing but meat would get rough on the stomach.
Nicole grabbed a mushroom growing kit, thick with oyster mushrooms and golden mushrooms, and headed to Hughie’s apartment.
The three of them were stunned.
Fresh greens. Fresh mushrooms.
“Nicole, you could win a survival show with this,” Jeremy said.
“I just got lucky,” she shrugged. “I bought these kits online when I moved in. Didn’t think they’d actually grow”
“Is there anything you can’t figure out?” Jeremy asked.
“Stick with Nicole, and we’ll never starve,” Hughie added.
The mood was good.
They got to work in the kitchen.
Before long, Zeph and Poppy joined them, bringing ten eggs and about half a pound of pasta.
