The Apocalypse Survival Manual (Three Days Before Doomsday, I Stockpiled Billions) novel Chapter 715

The next morning, Nicole and Zeph slept in until they woke up on their own.

When their eyes met, they smiled and wrapped their arms around each other, neither wanting to let go.

After breakfast, Zeph checked the Hummer.

A lot of sand had gotten inside, and cleaning it out would take time. More importantly, they might run into Hughie and the others at the military base.

A vehicle that disappeared during the sandstorm couldn't suddenly show up again.

Still, there was always a chance they would run into trouble on the road. So, after thinking it over, they decided to take the Marauder instead. They could switch vehicles once they reached Halloway.

The Marauder stood out too much, though, so all four of them changed their appearance a little to avoid drawing attention.

Nicole put away the luxury RV, its exterior still covered in dirt and mud, and they set off in the rumbling Marauder.

They were on the road again, heading for Halloway.

After winding their way out of the mountains, they reached a badly damaged road riddled with potholes.

Before long, they started passing groups of people on the move.

Everyone carried whatever belongings and bedding they could manage. Some walked, others pushed battered bicycles, and every so often, an old car crawled along with the crowd.

From the conversations around them, Nicole gathered that most of the people were survivors from Glenmere heading toward Jazenville or even farther inland to higher ground.

Glenmere was on the coast. If people there were already evacuating, other coastal cities were probably doing the same.

That meant the authorities had likely predicted that the tectonic plates were about to collide.

The roads were packed with evacuees, and traffic crawled along in fits and starts. Trouble broke out constantly, too. People threw rocks, slashed tires, and caused problems whenever they got the chance.

Nicole ignored them and let them take their frustration out on the Marauder. No matter what they did, she wasn't getting out and giving them an opening.

With all the delays, they only managed about 40 miles a day. Fortunately, none of them cared much. As long as they stayed together, nothing else mattered as much.

Three days later, they finally reached Halloway.

The road to the military base split off from the route leading to the government base in Jazenville.
