Chapter 80
The woman actually did have quite a bit of food stored at home. When the typhoon first hit, she had gone door to door asking for help, picking up plenty along the way.
She never expected Nicole to call her out like that.
She had heard there was medicine on the 18th floor and came hoping to get some. She hadn’t expected Nicole to be
so hard to deal with.
The woman’s voice dropped. “I really don’t have any food. If I did, I would’ve brought it to trade.”
“I don’t care what you have,” Nicole said coldly, “but if you try to come after me again, I’m going to break into your place.”
The look in Nicole’s eyes made the woman break out in a cold sweat. She didn’t dare argue anymore. She turned around and hurried downstairs, already thinking about how to hide her supplies.
She hadn’t gotten any medicine and had only made things worse. Now, she had a real problem.
Back upstairs, the needle treatment continued.
“Don’t take what that woman said to heart,” Gabrielle said, chatting as she lay there.
“She lives right below me. Always trying to take advantage of people. She used to bring her kid over all the time, mooching food. And the kid’s the same way. Sees something good and won’t let go. I stopped letting them in after a while.
“Oh, and the girl next door to me, you should watch out for her, too. She’s been talking about you behind your back.”
“You mean the one who got her hair cut off?” Nicole asked.
Gabrielle lived on the 12th floor. That had to be Mary.
“Yeah. She keeps trying to get information out of me, asking if you’ve got medicine.”
Gabrielle wasn’t naive. She could tell the girl had bad intentions.
“I told her you didn’t, but she didn’t believe me. She’s been influencing the others, too. Feels like a lot of them have something against you now.”
Gabrielle had seen enough in her life to recognize it for what it was.
“Nicole, this disaster’s changing people and pushing them in a bad direction. I know you’re capable, but you still need to be careful going in and out.”
Nicole had already died once. There was no way she wasn’t cautious.
Even when treating people, she picked carefully. Not everyone who showed up got help.
In her last life, she had seen the worst of human nature in this building. The only people she treated were the ones who still had some decency left.
Even then, most of them didn’t make it in the end.
Thinking of Mary, Nicole narrowed her eyes. “What exactly has she been saying?”

“Nothing outright. Just hinting around it. But the message is clear. She thinks you’ve got supplies.” Gabrielle paused, then added, “She’s also been trying to get close to that handsome guy on your floor. It didn’t go anywhere, though. He ignored her completely.”
Mary was trying to flirt with Zeph?
“She’s got a lot of tricks,” Gabrielle said. “She even faked twisting her ankle in front of him. He didn’t even glance at her, just walked right past.”
It wasn’t just Mary. There were a few pretty girls in the building doing the same thing. Some of them were even trading their bodies for food.
For something as small as a pack of instant noodles, they would go with two or three men.
Gabrielle sighed.
How had the world come to this?
