Chapter 82

Nicole woke up to the noise, saw Cola lying still in his bed, and rolled over to keep sleeping.
In the morning, she was still half-asleep when the dog started tugging at her blanket, tail wagging like crazy.
Time to get him ready for work!
Nicole yawned as she got up, mixing shredded chicken breast into Cola’s kibble. After feeding him, she applied ointment to the patch of irritated skin, then helped him into his raincoat.
Lunch couldn’t look too fancy. Just plain kibble with porridge, packed into a thermos and stuffed into a bag.
Cola grabbed the bag in his mouth and nudged the door open, then turned back to look at her.
He seemed to be saying, “I’m heading out to earn food. Stay home and don’t wander off.”
Nicole couldn’t help laughing. She walked over and hugged him. “Alright. Stay safe and don’t push yourself too
hard.”
Zeph’s door opened, and Poppy stepped out in her raincoat. “Nicole, I want a hug, too.”
Zeph must’ve talked to her. The girl was opening up more, even greeting Beatrice and the others one by one. She was nothing like the shy, scared kid she had been before.
Cola walked at the back, glancing over his shoulder at Nicole, clearly reluctant to leave. The only difference now was the sense of purpose he carried after training with Zeph.
Nicole closed the door and went out to the balcony. Before long, she saw them paddling away in the boat.
Right after they left, Oliver’s group followed in an inflatable raft.
And not just Oliver. Edward’s group trailed behind as well, along with people from other buildings.
Without anyone noticing, the 18th floor had become the example everyone was watching.
No matter how much they tried to figure it out, they couldn’t understand it. Everyone went out looking for supplies, so why did Zeph’s group always come back loaded, while they couldn’t even find decent firewood?
The gap was ridiculous.
They couldn’t beat them and couldn’t join them. So, all they could do was follow.
Nicole counted quietly. There were a lot more people trailing them than she expected.
Even so, she wasn’t worried. Zeph would shake them off.
After breakfast, Nicole went back to her medical books.
Around 10 a.m., Gabrielle came up for her needle treatment. After a few days of treatment, her back had improved a lot. She didn’t even need help climbing the stairs anymore.
Gabrielle was in a good mood, holding onto Nicole’s hand as she talked. “Nicole, Daisy got robbed last night. Guess that’s karma.”
Daisy Carlson was the one who had come to demand medicine and throw a tantrum. Someone broke into her place in the middle of the night, knocked her out, and took all her food.
When she woke up, she made a huge scene. This morning, she even went to Oliver, demanding that he put

together a team so she could search every household.
Oliver didn’t have the nerve to organize something like that, especially after hearing how much food Daisy’s family claimed was stolen. He nearly choked.
Over 200 pounds of rice, flour, and cooking oil, plus a bunch of cured meat, pickled vegetables, and more.
“She’s probably exaggerating,” Nicole said. “Who has that much stored at home?”
