The Apocalyptic Queen's Werewolf Journey (Thora and Darius) novel Chapter 139

**Chapter 139: Mystery and Unknown**

Thora had spent an entire month in contemplation, her mind racing with strategies and outcomes, before finally mustering the courage to approach Hugo. The moment she walked up to him, a sense of purpose radiated from her.

She met his gaze, her eyes unwavering and filled with determination. Hugo frowned slightly, perplexed by the audacity of her proposal. “You’re suggesting that Wolffang should operate completely outside the established chain of command? No oversight, acting as an independent force across the globe?”

“Precisely,” Thora replied, her voice steady as she clasped her hands behind her back, standing tall and resolute like a soldier ready for battle.

“Wolffang is already a special operations unit,” she elaborated, her tone firm and assured. “We’re not bogged down by the usual administrative constraints. We’re streamlined, and every member is at the top of their game. What we truly need now is real combat experience—time to bond as a team and engage in actual special operations.”

As she concluded her statement, her expression turned serious, but then softened as she locked eyes with him, her intensity unwavering. “Real enemies don’t line up neatly in front of you, Hugo. If your sole focus was Astralis from the very beginning, I would find that deeply disappointing.”

Hugo fell silent for a moment, the weight of her words hanging in the air. Finally, he replied, “Wolffang exists for the entirety of Blue Star, of course.”

Without missing a beat, Thora pressed on. “Then here’s what I need from you. First, eliminate all surveillance. I require total military confidentiality, free from prying eyes. Second, I want complete control over every Wolffang operation—no bureaucratic limits, and I’ll recruit whoever I deem necessary. Third, Wolffang must operate on a global scale, and all our missions will remain classified.”

Hugo listened intently, his expression serious as he absorbed her demands. Finally, he spoke, his voice low and measured. “Thora, that’s asking a lot.”

She met his gaze with an unwavering coolness. “No elite unit can thrive under constant scrutiny. A true ace strikes unexpectedly, leaving no room for prediction.”

A slow, sharp smile crept across her face. “Mystery and the unknown—that’s what truly terrifies people. Don’t you agree, General Stanton?”

Hugo’s eyebrows twitched, a flicker of realization dawning upon him. She had him cornered, there was no denying it.

Yet, he hesitated, weighing the implications of her request. “But you must understand this: operating off the empire’s radar means your resources will be limited. Even if I provide funding, access to weapons could be restricted. And if your missions inadvertently create complications for Astralis…”

As he spoke, Hugo found himself shifting from outright refusal to a careful consideration of the risks involved.

Thora maintained her steady gaze, unyielding. “If a unit cannot stand on its own, it is destined to fail. And regarding that ‘trouble’—if no one knows we belong to Astralis, how can it be trouble?”

Hugo held her stare, feeling the weight of her conviction. She was merely sixteen, yet in the span of just three months, she had transformed from an unassuming girl into a figure of authority, standing before him with the confidence of a seasoned soldier.

He questioned his own memories. Had she been hiding her military prowess all along?

His expression fell, a mix of respect and bewilderment washing over him.

He was a general of the empire, a figure of authority respected throughout the military ranks. When had a mere child, barely a sergeant, ever left him at a loss for words?

Yet, he realized he was becoming accustomed to this feeling.

He had witnessed the evolution of Wolffang firsthand.

In less than a month, every training track had been optimized, running like a well-oiled machine.

Just after their meeting, before Thora even reached the base gate, her phone buzzed to life.

Two minutes remained of the half-hour he had promised.

She answered the call, and Hugo’s serious voice came through the line.
