The Apocalyptic Queen's Werewolf Journey (Thora and Darius) novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140: His Call

The air was thick with anticipation as Thora stood at the formidable base gate, her mind racing with the implications of the Lycan King’s decree. “Thora,” Hugo’s voice had been steady, almost mechanical, as he delivered the news. “The Lycan King and the other congressional representatives have signed off. From this moment onward, the Wolffang Unit is entirely autonomous. There are no external commands, no one to oversee its operations. Every personnel file, every mission detail is classified at the highest level—45.”

She absorbed each word, her heart pounding with excitement and a hint of trepidation. “But there are stipulations,” Hugo continued, his tone shifting to one of gravity. “First, you must maintain constant communication with headquarters. Second, be prepared to receive directives from the Astralis Empire. Lastly, whenever you are off duty, your identity must remain concealed.”

Thora raised an eyebrow, her expression a mix of disbelief and determination. “Understood,” she replied, her voice steady, though internally she was already strategizing how to make the most of this newfound freedom.

As soon as the call ended, a cacophony of gunfire erupted from deep within the base, resonating like a war drum. Wolffang Unit was ready to unleash its fury upon the world, and Thora felt a rush of exhilaration at the thought of the storm they would create.

Meanwhile, Hugo, who had rattled off his instructions in one breath, found himself pondering a curious thought after disconnecting. Why had the Lycan King agreed to this so readily? He had anticipated a lengthy debate, yet the decision had come swiftly, almost too easily.

In the opulent confines of the royal estate, the Lycan King sat back, a satisfied smile playing on his lips as he sipped his coffee. His adjutant, Kyle Dixon, looked perplexed, unable to fathom the sudden approval of General Stanton’s request. “Sir, why did you endorse General Stanton’s proposal so quickly?” Kyle asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.

“Because my grandnephew reached out to me recently,” the Lycan King replied, a glimmer of pride shining in his eyes.

“Mr. Blackwood?” Kyle inquired, his curiosity piqued.

“Indeed. She is someone he trusts implicitly. Why shouldn’t I extend that trust to her as well?” The Lycan King’s gaze sparkled with approval. “To be honest, her skills and vision far surpass my expectations. Allowing her full control over Wolffang is the only way it can evolve into a formidable weapon.”

At the Skybound Group, Darius was engrossed in testing the system Thora had meticulously designed when his phone buzzed insistently. It was Kyle on the line.

Without diverting his attention from the screen, he answered, “What’s up?”

“Mr. Blackwood,” Kyle’s voice was calm and assured, “Lycan King has officially sanctioned Thora’s request for the independence of the Wolffang Unit.”

This time, Thora almost let the call go to voicemail, but something compelled her to answer. “Spit it out or hang up,” she said, her tone icy, leaving no room for pleasantries.

Darius, sensing the chill in her voice, decided to drop the jokes. “The project you requested is complete. When would you like to review it?”

Thora blinked, taken aback by the speed of the completion, and though she was slightly impressed, her voice softened only slightly. “I’ll come by tomorrow.”

Darius felt a flicker of excitement, tapping his fingers on his thigh, his voice low and charged. “Good. I’ll be waiting—”

But before he could finish, she hung up again, leaving him with a frustrated “Tsk.”

Should he lament her ruthlessness, or be grateful that he was still of some use to her? After all, without this project, he might not even have the chance to hear her voice at all.
