Chapter 303 It Was Never the Hard Part
Thora narrowed her eyes, glancing sideways at Draven.

He was staring toward the blast site, his gaze dark and focused. The air around him felt heavy, like he was turning something over in his mind.
Thora scanned their surroundings, frowning slightly. Good. She’d already wiped the surveillance feeds. If the academy had seen what just happened, it would’ve turned into a whole mess.
Her eyes flicked once more to the scraps of torn fabric scattered on the ground. She stepped forward, picked up the fallen contestant’s number tag, and flipped it over.
Lucky. A non-duplicate map fragment.
In her mind, it snapped perfectly into place with the pieces she already had. More than half the map was now complete.
She tightened the straps of her pack and headed straight into the dense forest ahead.
Draven lifted his gaze and followed. His long strides closing the distance easily.
At this point, Thora barely registered his presence.
After what just happened, she was confident of one thing-Draven wasn’t a threat to her. Not for now.
And if that was the case, she didn’t mind having a free bodyguard and an extra hitter.
Guided by the map she’d already memorized, the two of them quickly left the center of the island and pushed outward.
An entire hour passed without running into a single other candidate.
The forest was quiet.
Thora walked ahead, movements precise, posture straight. Her expression was cool but not distant.
Behind her, Draven’s silver mask caught the faint morning light, reflecting a soft, shifting glow. The oppressive aura that once clung to him had thinned, almost fading into nothing.
His lips were pressed into a sharp line, eyes fixed on the figure in front of him.
“How many people do you think will actually pass this exam?” he asked suddenly.
“No idea,” Thora replied calmly.
One brow lifted beneath the mask. Draven waited.
“By now, most people have gathered nearly all the map fragments they need,” Thora said slowly. “But collecting fragments was never the hard part. It’s what comes after-how many people will choose to start eliminating their opponents once the fragments are complete?”
One can team up and share resources.

Even with massive overlap, given enough time, anyone can finish the map.

But once the fragments are in hand, deciding whether to take out the teammate who fought beside you-or someone you’ve already labeled a threat—is a completely different matter.
From the moment the sun rose, the deserted island had officially entered the second phase. The true elimination round.
A cold smile curved Draven’s lips. “And what makes you so sure they’ll turn on each other instead of leaving together?”
Thora slowed to a stop. “Because fighters don’t like leaving threats behind.”
Draven’s gaze shifted, locking onto her.
She turned back, meeting his eyes through the mask, and added with quiet emphasis, “And neither do I.”
Then she turned away and continued forward.
The curve at Draven’s lips slowly faded.
“Darius…”
Just that one name made Thora stop again.
“Say it.” She gave him only two words.
“Darius is my brother,” he said evenly. After a brief pause, he added, “I don’t like him.”
That single sentence did two things at once-it confirmed his identity and made his stance clear.
Thora had asked about this before. Back then, he hadn’t answered.
Her instincts told her it was something he didn’t want to talk about, so she hadn’t pushed. Knowing there was a connection had been enough.
She hadn’t expected him to bring it up on his own.
The atmosphere shifted, subtle but unmistakable.
Thora nodded once. Nothing more. Then she turned and kept walking.
Draven seemed to have expected exactly that response. A faint smile returned to his lips as he stepped forward to follow.
Not far ahead of them, however, a brutal fight was already underway.
Ryan and Tristan versus Sierra and Frost.
Ryan had been on his own when he ran into Sierra and Frost and got dragged into a prolonged clash. Tristan just happened to stumble upon the fight.
It was the worst possible matchup. Without a word, Tristan jumped straight into the fray.

But these two weren’t ordinary opponents. They were professional killers. Every strike aimed to kill-and both were enhanced by awakened abilities.
Sierra could vanish for short bursts of time. Frost was a speed type.
They were masters of stealth and dual-wielding techniques; their wolf spirits’ ranks were far from low. In close-quarters combat, they held a crushing advantage.
