Chapter 47 Run, Bruce!
Logically speaking, in an era where everyone’s stats were digitized, people with high vitality shouldn’t suffer from physical ailments. Similarly, those with high spirit would experience fewer mental health issues.
But Bruce was an assassin. Neither his vitality nor spirit were high, and he hadn’t allocated points in those directions either. That left both his body and mind fragile.
When his stomach hurt, the data showed it as HP loss.
Not much. Just 5 points. Then his natural regeneration kicked in, he rested a bit, recovered, and then lost another 5.
As for mental issues, it was obvious Bruce had severe PTSD.
The stomach was tied to the emotional system. Whenever he got upset, his stomach hurt. Not to mention he hadn’t eaten in 20 hours.
“Your stomach hurting has nothing to do with your former teammate. You should go talk to your current teammates. They’ll take care of you, feel sorry for you, help you out. Why are you standing in front of me?”
Bruce sounded utterly heartbroken.
“You’re not going to take care of me anymore? You said you’d always be there for me.”
“Excuse me?” Joanna seemed to have heard something hilarious.
She stared deeply at this boy she had once cared for most, but now all she felt was irony. “And what about you? What did you do? You kicked me off the team. Were you there for me? Bruce, you abandoned me first. You wronged me. You betrayed me. And you still have the nerve to say something so shameless. I really … spoiled you all way too much. I’m actually curious. Why did you all do this? No, I’m not curious. I’m just confused. After everything I did, did you really not notice at all what my presence on the team meant? My hard work, my sacrifices, and you all just took it for granted. Your past achievements, the grades that could have gotten you into Prismbridge University, I contributed to all of that. You kicked me off the team, burned the bridge after crossing it, and you don’t feel even a shred of regret?”
More than the anger and pain of betrayal, Joanna felt her efforts had been worthless.
These people didn’t value her contributions.
They treated her like she was disposable.

Maybe they could do better, but only if they could master everything Joanna had. And clearly, they couldn’t
Bruce’s voice choked up.
“I… I regret it!”
He had regretted it the moment they entered Desolate TownL
Without Joanna’s guidance, he felt like he didn’t even have the courage to move forward.
When he was six, the Machine Faction counterattacked the dimension he lived in.
One moment, his sister was holding his hand as they walked down the street.
The next, machines were raining down from the sky in swarms.
These machines were mostly shaped like spiders and war wolves, pouncing on everyone in sight.
Blue light spread outward. Wherever it touched the ground, all machines and metal came to life.
Cars became iron giants.
Vending machines started moving.
Even streetlamps twisted, extending their wires to hang screaming bystanders.
Bruce’s oldest sister was only 16 years old at the time, freshly awakened. She grabbed him and ran, hiding inside a hospital.
Then, right in front of him, a medical cart transformed into countless precision machines and hunted them down.
“Run, Bruce!”
His sister shoved him, telling him to run. But he didn’t know where to go.
As a mage, his sister managed to cast a single fireball before the medical cart restrained her. The terrifying Machine Faction instantly extended countless instruments. In the sterile white glow of that hospital lobby, they transformed his sister into a monster right before his eyes.

In the end, they were caught by a terrifying spinning blade and ground into pulp. Red liquid splattered onto his eyelids.
Blood was everywhere. Those machine–converted humans were everywhere.
It was pure hell.
Bruce ran. Every direction he turned, a machine blocked his path. Eventually, he stopped running altogether. He lost all sense of direction and could only stand there crying.
Fortunately, the Space Alliance’s channel opened as an emergency response. Many players arrived and rescued Bruce, bringing him to Chromatic Star.
But that dimension had completely fallen. His luxurious home was gone. His parents died in battle. His oldest sister became a monster and was probably long dead. His second sister was still missing to this day.
From that moment on, he hated the Machine Faction and feared all machines. He was terrified of every electronic device, afraid they would suddenly transform into monsters and kill him.
He also couldn’t make decisions. Whenever he had to do something on his own, he became paralyzed with fear. It was as if the moment his sister let go of his hand, all his happiness vanished forever.
