Chapter 161 Fair Trade, No Discounts
Joanna let out a short laugh.
Yesterday, Garfield had talked big in the arena, with everyone watching. Now there was no audience. He apologized in private but acted like he had suffered some huge injustice.
He got both sympathy and dignity, all wrapped up nicely.
“So,” Joanna said calmly, “are you returning it or trading for it? You’re not seriously thinking an apology alone is enough to take an SSS-rank talent from me, are you?”
Helen jumped in at once.
“Professor Houle, this apology doesn’t show much sincerity.”
Webster kept smiling, but inside, he was speechless. If Helen weren’t here, he would have already used a softer kind of threat to end this.
But both Joanna and Helen were far harder to deal with than he expected.
“Of course we’re sincere,” Webster said. “Joanna, what would you like in exchange?”
She was just a student. What could she possibly ask for? Even if she asked for a lot, it couldn’t be anything truly rare.
He was wrong.
“I want a Mythic-level Talent Upgrade Stone,” Joanna said. A Mythic-level Talent Upgrade Stone could raise an SS-rank talent to SSS-rank.
Webster and Garfield were taken aback.
Webster quickly said, “Garfield’s Fair Trade talent can only be used by the Lowes. Even if you keep it, you can’t use it. It’s useless to you. How could it be worth a Mythic-level stone?”
“It’s useless to me,” Joanna replied, unbothered. “But it’s useful to Garfield. An SSS- rank talent for a Mythic-level upgrade stone. That’s equal value. Fair trade.”

She looked relaxed, completely confident.
Webster gave a bitter smile.
“In theory, yes. But Mythic-level stones are extremely rare. Even top academies barely have any. The Lowes simply can’t provide one.”
If those stones were easy to get, Walter wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of producing heirs just to secure SSS-rank talents.
Money alone couldn’t buy this item.
Webster sighed. “Let me be honest. The Lowes is willing to offer one Legendary- tier Talent Upgrade Stone in exchange for a talent you can’t even use. You wouldn’t lose out.”
“No,” Joanna said flatly. “I would lose. An SS-rank talent and an SSS-rank talent are not the same.”
“But you can’t use it.”
“We don’t need to go in circles. You won’t convince me.”
They went back and forth like blades clashing. At first, Helen helped argue. Soon, she realized Joanna didn’t need her at all. Helen leaned back, smiling, eating a small cake Nighthowl had brought her.
In the end, they finally reached an agreement.
Joanna did not want a Legendary-tier Talent Upgrade Stone. She could exchange for one at the academy anyway, and she only needed one.
Instead, her compensation was three Legendary-tier Skill Upgrade Stones, each capable of raising a skill up to SS rank. She originally wanted five. Webster refused to budge.
The deal was settled at three.
By then, sweat was forming on Webster’s forehead.
Young people these days are terrifying.
This girl would be a major figure in the future.
“Since Joanna agrees,” Webster said, “we’ll proceed with the talent exchange. The Lowes representative can’t enter the campus, so he’ll wait at the restaurant outside. Don’t worry, we’ll use a system contract. The system guarantees this deal. Your interests will be fully protected.”
Even with Joanna’s consent, the exchange still required a Lowe merchant to complete it.
Helen stood up as well. “I’ll go take a look too.”
Joanna was grateful for Helen’s company. She quietly decided to send Helen a fruit
basket later.
They went to a private room at a restaurant outside the campus.
Both sides signed the contract.
Joanna trades Fair Trade talent (SSS-rank).
Garfield trades Legendary-tier Skill Upgrade Stone x3. Garfield is forbidden from using Capital Preservation or No-Loss Principle during this transaction.
