Helen drove Wazowski back, forcing him all the way out of a city full of mortals.

Joanna finished saving the people there, then hurried to join the fight. She worried Wazowski would try to run again, and Helen might not be able to catch him if he did.

Helen and Wazowski faced off, both battered and bleeding. Helen’s tentacles oozed with demonic energy, so she sliced them off quickly to stop the spread.

Wazowski looked even worse. He could barely stand, and the blood from his mouth stained his chin a deep red.

As soon as Joanna arrived, Wazowski’s gaze locked on her. His eyes blazed with obsession.

“You are truly the most beautiful. What are you to this monster? Did she threaten you?

“Give me back my Pathseed, and I’ll help you kill her. I’ll free you.

“You could stay with me, at the top of the cultivation world.

“You’d have endless wealth. If you want immortality, I’ll give it to you. If you want strength, I’ll sacrifice the world to make you stronger.”

Joanna’s expression didn’t change.

“No. My strength is my own. It never came from the deaths of helpless people.”

Wazowski pleaded, desperate. “I can change!

“If you hate my killing, I’ll stop. If you want a new world, I’ll create it for you. I can stop being a demon and become a celestial instead.”

Joanna’s laugh was cold.

“You think you can just drop everything and become a saint? What about all the people you already killed?”

Wazowski snapped.

He shouted, “Joanna, what do you want from me? I could use the last of my power to kill

but I can’t.

“I saw you once and fell in love.

“I never loved anyone before, but now, I do. I’m hopelessly in love with you.

“What more do you want? You already have my love.”

Joanna shuddered.

That line was familiar.

She remembered someone else who said it-her first teammate to die, Neil.

He’d said almost the exact same thing.

“So what if I have your love? Your love is worthless to me. And I don’t believe for a second that a real Demon Supreme can’t resist my Law. If you think you can fool me with a few sweet words, save your breath.”

Wazowski went silent.

He knew those feelings were fake, just another trick for Joanna.

But as a Demon Supreme, he was used to women chasing him.

He always thought anyone would die for him if he wanted.

He didn’t expect his tricks to fail this time.

Maybe the Law’s influence still lingered. Joanna did seem different to him, unique.

He felt like she should belong to him.

A moment later, someone appeared by Joanna’s side.

He had silver hair and silver eyes, with a face cold and handsome as the moon.

“How’s the fight?” Nighthowl asked. He glanced warily at Wazowski, then at Helen. He summoned Silver Heal to heal Helen’s wounds.

Wazowski’s breath caught.

“Who is he?”

Joanna replied calmly, “My mate.”

Wazowski’s rage flared.

Just then, another light shone, bright as the sun.

Alwyn arrived.

“Should I step in, Joanna?” He raised his shield, standing in front of Joanna. Still, he stayed back out of respect for a Mythic-tier.

Wazowski’s composure crumbled again.

“And who is this?”

Joanna shrugged. “Also my mate.”

Wazowski stared, stunned, as if the world had ended.

“How can you do this? How can you have so many mates? If you won’t stick to one, shouldn’t even think of serving two husbands at once!”

you

Joanna was speechless. She didn’t know how to answer such an old-fashioned complaint.

“Queen, are you alright? The Demon Supreme is insane. He’s dying and still yelling at you. Are you the chief judge of the Space Alliance or something? Why are you so strict? My Queen is strong. It’s normal for her to have more than one husband.”

“Lucien, I think we should call her her masters. These days, Queens are considered subordinate. I’m not arguing, though-maybe it’s just one of Master’s little quirks. Still, I’m definitely Master’s loyal pet.”

Benjamin hurried over and bowed, his bright pink eyes shy as he looked up at Joanna.

“I

guess crying.”

that’s true. Ms. Lane, you really should shower me with love, or I’ll be sad and start

Caspian joined them. As he spoke, a tear slipped from his eye and turned into a pearl. Joanna caught it before it could fall.

Troy and Xavier came next, both silent. One was stoic and hardly spoke, and the other just refused to join in on the nonsense.

He understood Joanna was stalling for time. The longer this dragged on, the weaker Wazowski would get, and the stronger Helen would become.
