Chapter 492 Into the Fray

Joanna’s heart was hammering. The news hit her like something cold wrapping around her and pulling her under. Her first thought was Helen..
Helen had Hastor backing her, which made her combat power formidable, but she was still a Summoner at her core, and Summoners were fragile. She was exactly the kind of target someone would go after.
Her second thought was Francis. He was a ranged professional. His defense was minimal. If an opponent closed within six miles before he could draw, his arrow speed wouldn’t save him. That was a death scenario.
Joanna grabbed the mage who’d delivered the news. Her eyes flickered violet.
“Who. Which god fell?”
The man had been spiraling, probably wouldn’t have given her anything coherent on his own. Under her influence, his gaze went glassy and flat.
‘Feran Clayton. The Mage God.”
Joanna exhaled harshly.
Not her professor. Not anyone she was close to among the Mythic-tier humans.
She thought of Felicia too. Felicia was here somewhere, and losing her would mean losing at least half of the Fertility modifiers in play. Without law-tier Fertility, the Resurrection Temple’s expansion plan through the Luminara network would stall for years.
But it wasn’t either of them. That relief lasted about two seconds before something heavier settled in.
A Mythic-level professional was dead. Every single one of them was irreplaceable, a treasure of the Space Alliance in the most literal sense. Losing one was a blow to the entire universe.
“What’s the current situation? Where’s the fighting? Send me coordinates.”
“I don’t know!” The man was useless past that point.
The system cut in.

“System Alert: You have entered the Decennial Battlefield. Proceed to the front line?
“Ten coordinates available for selection.
“Warning: In the Ancient Sea Left Flank Zone, the Mage God Feran Clayton has been defeated. The zone currently contains 23 Demon Gods and only 10 Mythic-level professionals.
Threat level: Extreme.

The entire group vanished on the spot. All ten of them, Joanna and her nine contracted companions, gone before the mage had finished blinking.
He came back to himself slowly, the haze clearing from his head. Then it hit him.
“That was Joanna… Was that Joanna who grabbed me?! She’s here. She’s actually on the battlefield.”
Something shifted in him.
“We can’t fall apart. We owe it to Feran. Get to the front line. We can’t kill gods, fine, but we can kill demonkind.
“If the top prodigy isn’t flinching, what exactly is our excuse?”
He steadied himself and pulled up the battlefield map.
On the other side of the zone, Joanna landed.
She activated Symbiotic Fusion immediately and surged to near-demigod combat power in an instant.
The void around her was full of light and violence. Explosions of power in every direction.
Below, the human front line was collapsing, warship wreckage raining through the dark. The demonkind moved through it all like creatures born from the deep of space, vast and unhurried, consuming everything in their path.
The moment she touched down, she heard them. Telepathy, broadcast openly, not even bothering to hide
“Ha! You humans from the other worlds. So soft. So tender.”
“Small though.”
“Small but concentrated. One piece of flesh and you’re tasting whole currents of divine law. That one tasted like water law, smooth all the way down. Exquisite.”
The Mythic-level humans fighting nearby had gone past rage into something colder. Every one of them had blood-red eyes.
They were outnumbered, constantly being herded into kill zones by coordinated demon flanks Feran had died exactly that way, caught in a coordinated collapse during the main melee.
This wasn’t a fair fight. It was a planned culling. And humanity had no allies to call. Their sudden rise through the galactic rankings had earned them competitors, not friends.
The weak didn’t get diplomatic relationships. They got ignored until they were strong enough to be worth talking to, and then they got targeted.
