Chapter 5 Executing
All of them spoke at the same time, calling out to that passing figure.
Joanna was holding Nighthowl and had no desire to deal with them at all. She didn’t expect them to actually call her.
She didn’t even slow down and kept walking forward, but the next second, the most hot-headed one, Cedric, suddenly jumped to his feet and stepped over two tables to block her path.
“I’m talking to you. Didn’t you hear me?”
When his gaze landed on Joanna’s face, he froze for a moment.
Joanna didn’t seem as pretty as before?
Even though she was wearing a mask and only her eyes were visible, she seemed to have lost that heart-grabbing charm she used to have.
But in truth, she was still very pretty. She had cried earlier that morning, so her eyelids were slightly red, making her look even more fragile. Still, the annoyance on her face was not hidden at all.
“I don’t want to hear your voice! Move. Don’t block my way.”
Joanna tried to dodge him, but the space between the cafeteria tables was narrow, leaving her no room to pass.
So annoying!
That sentence completely set Cedric off.
In his eyes, Joanna was clearly upset because she had been kicked out of the team. She looked so pitiful, yet she was still stubborn.
If this were before, he might have tried to comfort her.
But today, for some reason, he felt no pity at all. He just wanted to make her give in.
“That’s enough. Why are you still making a scene? If you don’t want to go to Kayden’s team, then come back with us and handle support work. Today’s lunch was terrible. Go make us a whole roasted lamb. I want to eat that.”
As he spoke, he reached out to grab Joanna’s wrist.
At that moment, Nighthowl, who had been quietly held in Joanna’s arms, finally had enough.
Nighthowl shot out his claw at lightning speed, and a streak of white-silver light flashed through the air.
This was Stellar Rend.
Space itself was torn open, leaving three deep claw marks in the air.
Before Cedric could even react, his wrist was severed instantly.
“Ahhh!”
Cedric let out a scream as blood sprayed everywhere, splashing up onto the cafeteria ceiling and nearly onto Joanna.
Joanna instinctively stepped back, but a burst of silver light blocked her. The light formed a shield, keeping the filthy blood from touching her.
Everyone else was terrified.
Neil’s expression changed as he flicked his hand, throwing out a pure white chain that wrapped around the severed hand on the floor.
The hand was pulled back and pressed against Cedric’s wrist. The chain tightened, and his hand was reattached.
Bruce and Lucas were shocked.
Joanna had shown no mercy at all.
Does she really hate us that much?
This was not what they wanted.
“Joanna, what do you think you’re doing? You attacked a classmate at school?” Rhoda was the first to question her. These were her new teammates, after all, so she naturally had to defend them to gain more favor.
Joanna hadn’t expected Nighthowl to strike so decisively.
But after he did, she only felt relieved.
“My contract beast and I just formed our bond. He’s very sensitive to hostile intent. Cedric tried to attack me, so this was self-defense.”
As for whether Nighthowl was truly that sensitive, she said he was, so he was.
Cedric deserved it.
At that moment, everyone’s eyes finally shifted to Joanna’s arms.
Only then did they notice the cute little dog she was holding.
Of course, it wasn’t a dog. It was a young wolf.
Bloodlust flickered in Nighthowl’s eyes as he stared at Cedric.
He hated Cedric and wanted to kill him.
However, he also sharply sensed that the atmosphere had changed. It seemed that after he attacked, he had caused trouble for his contracted companion.
The whispers around them reached his ears.
“Joanna actually has a summoned beast now. She failed so many times before. This one is really strong. It even managed to hurt Cedric.”
Some people who liked and supported Cedric immediately spoke up to argue.
“Cedric wasn’t prepared at all. He didn’t expect Joanna’s summoned beast to attack him.”
“And Cedric is a mage. Getting hit when he wasn’t ready is totally normal.”
“How can a summoned beast act without its summoner’s command? Joanna must have done it on purpose.”
“What Joanna did breaks school rules.”
Lucas’s eyes darkened at once.
Joanna’s attitude earlier had already made them unhappy, but now, after leaving them, she had really managed to contract a summoned beast.
That made him feel deeply uneasy, like things were slipping out of his control.
His eyes dropped to Joanna’s hand, and when he saw the bandages wrapped around it, he suddenly realized something.
“Joanna, did you use the latest Bloodcall Circle? The summoned beast you called is bloodthirsty and violent, and you can’t control it. It even attacked Cedric. A summoned beast like that absolutely cannot be allowed to exist.”
Joanna was furious.
“Why?”
Lucas lifted his chin slightly, his expression proud, his eyes looking down at Joanna with clear contempt.
“You don’t need to ask why. Your summoned beast threatens the safety of students at Trinity High. If you want to stay at Trinity High and take the SAT, you must execute this summoned beast.
“Otherwise, you will be expelled from Trinity High, and you won’t even be allowed to take the SAT.
“If you do execute it, I’ll report this to Mr. Schneider. You’ll only get a demerit, and you can stay and serve as logistics support for our team to make up for your mistake.”
Joanna clenched her teeth.
Is forcing me out of the team still not enough for them?
Now they want to force me out of Trinity High and stop me from taking the SAT?
Most importantly, if she was expelled from Trinity High, she would become a non-student worker and no longer a current graduate.
Non-student workers could still take the SAT, but they had to pay a huge fee in Starcoins. Otherwise, people would wander around doing low-level jobs, hoping to change their fate through the SAT without contributing anything to society.
The Space Alliance did not accept useless people.
And the fee for non-student workers was one million Starcoins.
She was already in debt for 1.22 million Starcoins, so there was no way she could pay another huge amount.
“I already said it. Cedric attacked me first. You can check the security footage.”
But at that moment, the people around her began blaming Joanna instead.
“Why did you ignore Cedric when he was talking to you? This is clearly your fault.”
“That’s right. He was just reaching out to stop you. If you had just paused, nothing would have happened.”
“You told him not to block your way. Cedric was being nice enough not to argue with you.”
Joanna, of course, didn’t think she was wrong at all.
When Lucas saw that Joanna refused to give in, he decided he had to teach her a harsh lesson this time.
For some reason, crushing Joanna like this filled him with a hidden sense of pleasure.
Watching this stubborn woman be pressed under his foot, unable to do anything but rage helplessly, felt like training a disobedient kitten. It gave him a strong sense of control.
Drake arrived very quickly.
Drake had just handled their issue in the morning, and being called over again at noon only made him more impatient.
After Lucas suggested executing Joanna’s summoned beast, Drake agreed right away.
“Joanna, do as Lucas says. Otherwise, I will expel you from the school.”
