From the very beginning, they never took Joanna seriously. Even though the people they sent kept dying, they blamed it on poor execution, not on her.

They knew Joanna had some skill. But in their minds, her strength only came from tricks. They believed she had stolen 1,000 attribute points from Kayden.

They never believed she possessed strength on her own.

Reality slapped them hard.

Joanna ranked first.

Her base attributes were over 9,000.

That was not luck. That was pure talent. She was a once-in-a-generation genius.

The two of them looked ugly. Their faces went pale and stiff.

Joanna turned to Maverick. “Mr. Lopez, if I press charges, what sentence could they get?”

Maverick replied calmly, “Attempted murder and destruction of private property. If you refuse to forgive them, the maximum sentence is seven years of service on Thunderfall Star.”

The Space Alliance’s laws were very similar to those of Varuna.

David and Irene were guilty of attempted murder. As for property damage, that referred to Joanna’s two contracted companions. They were legally her property.

Their plan had failed. Joanna was not seriously hurt.

So the sentence would be lighter.

Seven years.

But in the Space Alliance, prison did not always mean loss of freedom. Some powerful people had risen after serving time.

Thunderfall Star was a dangerous world. Thunderstorms struck the planet every single day. Only players above level 30 could even enter. Inside the storms, rare Stormbeasts appeared. So did Thunderstones.

Thunderstones were valuable resources. Lightning mages, energy systems, and magic arrays all depended on them.

The Alliance controlled the planet. They used criminals to mine it.

Lightning strikes could kill a person. More often, they destroyed attribute points.

For seven years there was brutal punishment.

Maverick added, “Kayden isn’t suited for Thunderfall Star. He will be sent to Grayfog Star instead.”

Grayfog Star was worse in another way. The gray fog damaged the brain over time. People became slow. Dull. Empty.

Stay long enough, and you lose yourself completely.

For someone like Kayden, it was fitting.

Joanna nodded, satisfied.

“Since Mr. and Mrs. Wright refuse to apologize,” she said calmly, “then let the sentence stand.”

That was when David and Irene panicked. David clenched his teeth. “100 million Starcoins,” he said. “I’ll pay. Please forgive us. Especially Kayden. He’s just a child. He was foolish. I’ll discipline him properly.”

Joanna laughed coldly. “He’s just a child,” she said, “yet he managed to get someone pregnant.”

In the Space Alliance, eighteen-year-olds were old enough to go to war.

Kayden’s luxury car alone was worth over 100 million. Trying to buy forgiveness with that amount was a joke.

Did Joanna even need the money?

If she wrote a guide for a new dungeon, earned an SSS rating, and cleared it without injury, the rewards would easily exceed that value.

And now?

With two transcendent beasts protecting her, any challenge dungeon would pay extremely well.

She could earn 100 million anytime she wanted.

On top of that, she was the top scorer. Corporations were lining up to invest in her. They were throwing money at her, and she didn’t even take it.

Once she entered university and leveled up, 100 million would be nothing.

Letting David and Irene pay would not hurt them. It would only make them bolder.

Fur Lined

If money solved everything and didn’t even cost them much, they’d think they could buy their way out of anything.

“Then go to Thunderfall Star and think about what you’ve done.”

Joanna turned to leave.

Maverick’s face turned cold.

David and Irene weren’t just disrespecting Joanna.
