The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 100

Lance caught that quick glance, even if it was just for a second.

He kept his head down as he rolled up his sleeves. The veins on the back of his hand stood out, tracing along his forearm before disappearing into muscle. With his hands tucked into his pockets, he gave off a cold, lifeless vibe.

Catherine tried to make herself as invisible as possible.

When the elevator doors finally slid open, they both stepped out. Without saying a word, they stopped at their doors and looked at each other.

Catherine wanted to ask if he had any more work for her. But when she met Lance’s eyes, the words just wouldn’t come out. She decided to wait for him to speak first.

He didn’t. The silence between them felt heavy, almost suffocating.

Then someone called out, “Lance!”

The door to his suite swung open from the inside. Adelina threw herself into Lance’s arms, and the second she spotted Catherine, her eyes filled with suspicion.

She pulled on Lance’s arm. “Did you eat lunch? I’m starving.”

“I already ate,” he replied.

Adelina tugged him inside and closed the door behind them.

Catherine pulled her key card from her pocket, opened her own door, and stepped inside. She hadn’t even had a chance to breathe before her phone started ringing.

It was Gavin.

She never saved his number, but by now, she knew it by heart.

Taking a deep breath, she swiped to answer.

“Catherine, if you don’t explain things to me today, I’m going straight to Lance and telling him you’re pregnant with his child.”

Catherine sat down on the sofa and let herself sink into the cushions, not sure where to even start.

“You ask, I’ll answer,” she said quietly.

Gavin laughed, clearly enjoying the fact that he had something on her.

She put the decision back on him. Two million wasn’t a small number. He was the one who needed to think this through.

“So you’re leaving Cabinda? Where are you even planning to go?” Gavin asked.

“Harrisburg, for now,” Catherine answered honestly.

He already knew her biggest secret. There was no point hiding anything else.

“Send me your bank account number. I’ll have someone wire you the money. Go back to Cabinda now and sign the termination papers with SilverLeaf Industries,” Gavin said, typing away on his computer. “There’s a flight to Cabinda in two hours. You’ll make it.”

He was right. She could make it. She could get back, head to the HR office before they closed, and sign everything.

Today, she could finally cut all ties with SilverLeaf Industries and with Lance.

“Once you get a new job, just pay me back a set amount each month until you’ve paid off the two million. Then we’re done,” Gavin said, laying out the plan in a matter of minutes.

All Catherine had to do was decide. After thinking it over, she said, “Okay.”
