The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 103

The news about Lance and Harrison working together had barely hit the internet before people started asking questions. Why wasn’t Adelina the one by Lance’s side? In their world, wasn’t it always the men talking business while their partners did the socializing? That’s the way these circles worked, right?

Adelina had already seen the online chatter, and it left her fuming. Now, with another wave of gossip spreading, she couldn’t hide her frustration anymore.

Catherine rubbed her temples. It felt like drama just kept piling up.

“I’ll try reaching out to Lara first,” she said.

After ending her call, Catherine took a deep breath, organized her thoughts, and dialed Lara’s number.

Lara picked up almost immediately. “Catherine?” She sounded genuinely surprised.

“Sorry to bother you, Lara,” Catherine said, her voice warm but apologetic. “I wanted to check in with you. That joke you made during the interview has really blown up online. Did you see it?”

Lara laughed softly. “Yeah, I saw. What’s up? Did your boss put you up to this?”

“No, nothing like that. Lance doesn’t care much about public gossip. He’s just worried you might have the wrong impression about Adelina. He cares about her for a reason. Maybe if you got to know Adelina, you’d see how great she really is.”

The Solenia project wasn’t a huge deal for SilverLeaf Industries, but Lance had traveled all that way to handle things personally. With Harrison doting on Lara the way he did, asking her to take back her words would basically be asking her to embarrass herself, and that would only cause unnecessary tension. Making a big deal out of something so minor would just come across as petty.

Catherine tried to keep things light, letting Lara know that if she wanted to smooth things over, finding a chance to clarify things would be enough to put the rumor to rest. If Lara wasn’t interested, there was no point pushing. Forcing it would only make things awkward.

Lara suddenly burst out laughing, her voice bright and playful. “Catherine, you know, I actually like you. Alright. I’ll come to Cabinda soon and see you all.”

Catherine hadn’t expected her to agree so easily. Lara making the trip all the way to Cabinda to meet Adelina was the clearest sign she was willing to set things right. It was basically an olive branch to both Adelina and Lance.

Lance’s face was unreadable. He finally stopped his tapping. “Why don’t you head over to the Greens’ and check on Adelina? I’ll handle the media.”

“You’re not coming?” Belinda looked at him, frowning. “Sarah said Adelina hasn’t even touched her breakfast. She’s been waiting for you.”

“Please, go ahead. I’ll come as soon as I finish up here,” Lance said quietly.

Belinda hesitated, still uneasy. “We have to give the Green family an explanation. Catherine crossed a line by teaming up with an outsider to talk about Adelina. The Greens are watching how you handle this, and you can’t just sweep it under the rug.”

“I know,” Lance replied, his voice suddenly cold.

Belinda wanted to press him for more, but when she saw the look on his face, she thought better of it. She left the office and went straight to the Green family’s house to comfort Adelina.
