The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 107

Catherine paused for a second, then slipped out of the conference room. She made her way back to her desk, grabbed her bag, and headed for the elevators.

As she passed Lance, he reached out and grabbed her wrist. His fingers were long and strong, the veins on the back of his hand standing out. He held her tight, his grip so firm that his knuckles turned white.

“Once you’re transferred, Gavin won’t have any use for you. What do you think he’ll do then?”

Catherine could imagine Gavin losing his mind when he found out about her transfer. With her getting moved away from Lance, Gavin would have a much harder time stirring up trouble.

“You don’t need to worry about that, Lance. How he treats me is my problem, not yours.”

She pulled her hand free. Her fingers brushed against his skin, warm and gentle, a jolt of heat passing between them. For a split second, it felt like that warmth burned right into Lance’s chest. He felt a strange shiver go through him.

Catherine dipped her head, then turned and walked away.

It was the weekend, so the office was pretty empty, but word about Catherine’s transfer to the Facilities Department had already spread everywhere. Before she even got home, she was kicked out of the executive assistants’ group chat. Then came the project team chats, one by one.

Letty saw the messages and called her right away.

“Why are they saying this has anything to do with you? Lara’s issue with Adelina isn’t your fault! You’re not the type to gossip, and the head secretary and I both know it. What’s really going on?”

Everyone close to Catherine believed she wasn’t to blame, but she was the one getting punished. Something had to be going on behind the scenes.

“I’ve been doing brain work for so long, maybe a little physical work will be good for me,” Catherine said, trying to keep things light. “Don’t be upset for me. I’ll take the punishment.”

Letty nearly burst into tears.

Lance walked out first, with Harrison right behind him. Adelina followed, holding onto Lara’s arm.

“Catherine.” Lara let go of Adelina and walked over. “I thought you’d be with them to pick me up.”

Catherine gave her a small smile. “Sorry, Lara. I had work to finish.”

She held her box close, her transfer letter sitting right on top. Lara’s sharp eyes caught the words “Facilities Department” immediately.

“What happened? Why are you being transferred to Facilities?”

Catherine’s voice was quiet. “Just a regular work reassignment.”
