The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 151

“I’m… of course I’m sure.”

The idea that Catherine was carrying Gavin’s baby was stuck in Sophia’s head like glue. When she heard Fiona’s skeptical tone, she shot back, “If it’s not Gavin’s, who else could it be? Lance?”

Fiona frowned. The more she thought about it, the less sense it made. “She was married to Lance for two years and never got pregnant. Why would she get pregnant now, after they’re divorced?”

Sophia didn’t believe it either. She remembered that Catherine and Lance had always used protection when they were married. Fiona had even pushed them a few times about having kids, but Lance always brushed it off, saying there was no hurry. Clearly, he never planned on having a child with Catherine.

Why would that change after they split? That would be crazy.

Fiona sighed, starting to see Sophia’s point. “I’ll go see what I can find out from the Main family.”

The James family and the Main family didn’t really have any deep grudges, just some ongoing business tensions. Their relationship was always a bit cold, partly because of work conflicts and partly because of all the rumors people spread, so both sides kept their distance.

“If you go straight to them and try to talk about Catherine, they’ll probably lose it,” Sophia said.

She figured that even if the Main family was willing to let Catherine in, Gavin was the type to avoid responsibility at all costs. And if they showed up demanding he step up, it would just make things worse, no matter how friendly the families wanted to be.

“We need to smooth things over between the families first. Then, when the time is right, we can bring up Catherine,” Fiona said. She already had a plan in mind to handle both things at once.

“I just hope Catherine doesn’t have to go through too much,” Fiona sighed.

Sophia agreed right away. “If someone has to suffer, it might as well be Lance. He’s had an easy ride for way too long.”

Fiona shot her a look. “Lance’s life started getting hard the moment things ended with Catherine. And if he ends up marrying Adelina, he’ll really know what suffering is.”

Sophia grinned and asked, “So, are you still going to treat Catherine as your granddaughter? Do you think she and Lance could ever get back together?”

Fiona got straight to the point. “That’s the project you snatched from Gavin, isn’t it?”

Lance didn’t answer, but that was answer enough.

“If you hadn’t messed with his business, he wouldn’t have leaked your data,” Fiona said, clearly unimpressed. “There’s no real feud between your families. If you keep going back and forth like this, it’s going to turn into something you can’t fix.”

Lance leaned against his desk and listened quietly.

Fiona continued, “You need to find a way to smooth things over. The Main family has already been trying to get in on the project through political connections, and it looks like the officials are open to it. Why not just bring them in and do them a favor? Work together on this.”

Lance knew she was right. Normally, he would have just agreed and moved on. But now, something about it made him uneasy.

Fiona watched him carefully. “You should be the bigger person here. What’s so bad about that kid from the Main family? He’s annoying sometimes but not a bad guy. He’s been poking at you for years, but he’s never really hurt your business…”
