The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 165

Lance just sat there, silent.

After a long pause, Adelina sniffled, then turned to look at him.

“Lance, you barely touched your food. Want me to keep you company and eat a little more? You still have work to do, you know.”

He shook his head, slow and gentle. “No, I’m really not hungry.”

Adelina pressed her lips together, guilt written all over her face. “It’s my fault. I ruined your mood.”

The air between them grew even heavier, thick enough to make her chest tight.

Lance’s brows drew together. His eyes grew darker, but he tried to keep his voice light. “When’s your next leg check-up? I’ll go with you.”

She nodded, grateful for the change of subject. “In a few days. I’ll call you when it’s time.”

“I’ll drive you home then.” Lance started the car, easing onto the gas. The car rolled quietly toward the Green family’s house.

Soon, they pulled up at the entrance.

Lance got out, lifted Adelina from the car, and set her gently in her wheelchair. “Let me take you inside.”

“No, I’ve got it. Really.” She forced a smile. “You should get back to work.”

But the thought of Lance calling Catherine into his office kept her heart heavy. With her leg like this, she couldn’t just show up at SilverLeaf Industries whenever she wanted.

Lance didn’t push. He just turned and got back in the car.

He had barely started the engine before someone knocked on his window. It was Adelina.

He lowered the window halfway. The way the light caught his profile made him look even more striking. Adelina felt her heart race, just like every other time she looked at him.

“Lance, I…” She wanted to say something, but the words wouldn’t come.

Lance beat her to it. “Go inside and get some rest. Don’t think about anything.”

“My poor girl. You’ve been through so much, and all because of that boy with no family.”

She hugged Adelina and let out a long sigh. “I won’t feel at peace until you’re Mrs. James for real. Only then will all this pain have been worth it.”

Adelina pressed her lips together, lost in her own thoughts.

Sarah leaned in, lowering her voice. “I talked to Belinda. She wants you two to get married soon. She says Lance is busy, but honestly, it’s his call. You need to push him to set a date. The sooner, the better.”

Sarah sounded anxious. After everything that had happened, she had a bad feeling she couldn’t shake.

“We’re definitely getting married. As for when… that depends on Lance. I don’t want to rush him.”

Sarah looked at her in shock.

“You two got together so soon after you came back from abroad. There’s real feelings there, isn’t there? Why can’t you ask him to hurry? That’s not what you used to say. Did something happen?”
