The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 180

Even if there wasn't a baby involved, she still couldn't bring herself to accept any of this.

“But… you really should find a good family to marry into!” Sophia blurted, almost admitting that without the adoption, her chances with the Main family were pretty much nonexistent.

Catherine stood up, slipping out from between the two of them. “Grandma, Sophia, I have my own plans. I just hope you both can try to see things from my side and understand.”

The moment Catherine spoke, Fiona realized she truly didn't want this.

Fiona sighed, her eyes full of gentle affection. “Alright. If that's how you feel, I won't bring it up anymore.”

Catherine let out a quiet breath, feeling some relief.

“But still, come to Grandpa's birthday party, okay? Just come as Sophia’s friend.”

Fiona thought that the closer Catherine got to the James family, the better her chances would be with the Main family. Having just refused the adoption, if Catherine said no to the party as well, it would probably break Fiona’s heart. She could only nod. “Okay.”

Sophia grinned. “You really are my only friend! Let’s go dress shopping together for the party. We can pick out something for Grandpa too, sound good?”

Catherine nodded again. “Alright.”

Just as they finished talking, the office door swung open. Lance walked in with long strides.

“Get ready. Adolf will be here soon to sign the contract.”

He gave Catherine a sidelong look before heading to his desk and sitting down.

Seeing him, Catherine’s heart skipped. But he acted just like always. Did he not hear what she’d said to Amanda earlier?

“What are you standing there for?” Lance frowned at her, his voice impatient.

Catherine pulled herself together, exchanged a glance with Fiona and Sophia, then quietly left the office.

Lance’s jaw tightened, but his expression softened as he glanced up. “You’ve already asked me that several times.”

“I don’t know… you just don’t seem to like her much,” Fiona said, studying him. “You two got together out of nowhere, and now it’s serious so fast. That’s not like you.”

Lance lowered his eyes, his voice calm. “We’ve known each other for years. It wasn’t sudden.”

Fiona sighed and turned to go. “Your mother’s planning to announce your engagement to Adelina at your grandfather’s birthday party. The wedding’s set for August.”

Lance’s brow creased as he glanced at the calendar.

August was still four months away.

For some reason, Catherine was the first person who popped into his mind.
