“That’s not what I… I didn’t mean it like that.”
He felt a knot twist in his stomach. Why did she get so mad? That wasn’t what he wanted to say at all. Wasn’t he just trying to help? He scratched his head, frustrated, and decided he needed to find a chance to meet Catherine face-to-face and clear things up.

At the Green family home, a photocopy of Catherine’s hospital records sat on the coffee table.
“Are you sure you heard her right?” Sarah asked Adelina, frowning. “She does look like she might be pregnant, but her belly isn’t showing yet. I can’t say for sure.”
Maybe one of them misheard, or maybe they both were just seeing what they wanted to see. The records didn’t mention pregnancy anywhere.
Adelina shook her head, certain. “She’s definitely pregnant. Something about these records just feels off.”
Sarah sighed. “The chances that there’s something wrong with her medical records are way smaller than the chances you misheard her.”
Adelina hadn’t slept well for days, worrying herself sick over it. Sarah’s heart softened as she watched her daughter unravel.
“Adelina, sweetheart, why are you so anxious? Are you hiding something from me?” Sarah asked gently.
“I…” Adelina was so flustered, she couldn’t get the words out. After a long pause, she finally blurted, “Mom, Catherine has to be pregnant. I’m going to have someone follow her. I’ll find proof, just wait and see.”
She pulled out her phone and dialed. “From now on, follow Catherine every day. Tell me everything she does, right away.”
“Yes, Adelina,” the person on the other end answered quickly.
Sarah set a fruit platter down in front of her and speared a piece of apple with a fork, offering it to Adelina. “Alright, now that you’ve taken care of it, stop worrying. Come on, listen to your mom and eat some fruit.”
But Adelina barely noticed the apple in front of her, her mind stuck on the thought of Catherine being pregnant.
She flipped the tag to check the price, but before she could see, Sophia blocked her view.
“Grandma said since you’re helping with the guests, you can just treat this as work. Lance will pay for the dress,” Sophia said with a grin.
Catherine had caught a glimpse—seven figures. Even if she drained her savings, she couldn’t afford that.
“Lance has more money than he knows what to do with. Go wild, don’t even think about it,” Sophia whispered, then turned to a staff member. “Can you bring out my dress too?”
“My turn to try something on. Wait here for me,” Sophia said, heading into the fitting room.
Catherine nodded and watched her friend disappear behind the curtain, then turned her eyes back to the mirror. Out of nowhere, she met the gaze of Adelina and Sarah, just walking into the shop.
Both women stared straight at her and started heading over. There was no doubt—they were here for her.
